This really a very important bug and it has to be fixed as soon as possible. This problem is one of the main reasons most people preffer AMD over NVIDIA. I’m with RTX 4090 and I’m suffering from this bug as well.
I would definitely like to see an update on this
Already solved the problem. In a radical way — by switching back to Windows 11 on my PC.
Thank you, NVIDIA, for making it impossible to enjoy Arch Linux.
After over a year of waiting on this bug I was also able to solve this problem by picking up an AMD Radeon 9070 XT.
Let’s be brutally honest about Linux “gamers” and “gaming”, shall we?
- Linux hasn’t had any AAA titles for many years, at least six now, and some rare indies don’t count. In general: no native games at all, we are talking emulation/translation/whatever.
- Every game company that has ported games to Linux has gone bankrupt because Linux “gamers” do not buy games.
- Linux gamers are a plague when it comes to online gaming: every piece of the software stack under Linux is replaceable and allows infinite cheating possibilities. The Linux kernel, kernel modules, OpenGL/Vulkan drivers, game resources, glibc and other libraries can all be replaced without the game knowing.
- Windows games that use a kernel anticheat will never work on Linux.
Couple that with the fact the Linux is not even an operating system per se, more like a bespoke temporary software compilation with horrible bugs and very little to no QA/QC.
Gaming on Linux. LMAO.
Install Windows 10/11 and have fun.
There are a ton of companies that have went bankrupt making games for Windows. Maybe we should go to consoles then using your same logic.
The software stack on Windows is replaceable too so what is your point? Most of these cheat programs probably use Windows executables since that is where most of their customers would come from. Linux is such a small market share that it wouldn’t make sense from a financial standpoint to sell cheat programs to Linux users.
Not and operating system? What a load of garbage. An OS acts as an intermediary between the hardware and the user to put it in simplest terms. The Linux Kernel, last I checked, does exactly that.
Install Windows and have fun huh? Tell you what, go to a game on Steam and then to it’s discussion forum and see all the users on Windows who can’t even start a game or it crashes often for a game made for Windows! but works fine on Proton.
Id software didn’t go bankrupt
Guys, don’t feed the troll.
Ironically I loose like 30% in ETS 2 even on their native Vulkan version lol
there is no need to port games natively on linux when proton/wine works good enough.
almost 20,000 games rated at playable or verified on steam deck, and top 1000 games on steam have 33% platinum and 44% gold medals on protondb.
all of the companies that i linked in that comment have ported some of their games themselves. (except square enix)
stop doing ad hominem and just criticize arguments.
@alim999 seriously please. The flag icon is there for a reason: just use it and see the magic happen ;-)
Any updates on this issue Nvidia?
Anyway, NVIDIA drivers awfully suck when it comes to VK3D performance. And I guess green megacorp don’t even bother to fix this because they really don’t care.
“Gaming on Linux” is always about proton now, that’s fact. And game developers (and some driver developers too) take in mind that some gamers using steamdeck or linux to play their games. (for example - Space Marine 2 has officially fixes for proton and Stellar Blade optimized for Steam Deck). Because thats how it works now.
With majority of gamers using NVIDIA cards, having such performance issues is discouraging.
Add to this problems issues with Wayland (for example - I can’t use freesync in anyways without seeing flickering) and you will have very bad experience with green card on Linux. Even if you don’t gaming at all.
To see difference when developers actually care, you can open amdgpu repo on gitlab and see it yourself.

This should be fixed ASAP. This is the reason most Windows users with NVIDIA are being dicouraged to migrate to Linux. My GPU is worth $3000 and never been used on Windows, still I’m second class citizen. It’s outrageous.
exactly!
I definitely believe that the Nvidia developers for Linux are doing what they can, and we’re grateful for that. However, the truth is that more are needed, along with much more active communication on this front.
Many of us users are willing to offer our time to help with testing and improving the current situation, but it has to be a mutual effort for things to work.
Yep, there’s no communication.
NVIDIA !!! DirectX12 performance is terrible on Linux issue wants some attention !!!
