Hi guys, I’ve just switched to a Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2 monitor and drive it at 3840x2160@240Hz via a DisplayPort of my Gigabyte RTX4080 Super Windforce V2 16G GV-N408SWF3V2-16GD card. Flickering artifacts appear at the bottom of my screen quite frequently: [celluloid-shot0003] [celluloid-shot0002] Flickering subsides in several seconds and occurs in several applications that use the Chrome rendering engine, including Electron applications, including Chrome, Visual Studio Code, Steam, and some others. I’m using the 550.78 nvidia driver on Linux Mint 21.3 Based on the referenced threads, this is a longstanding issue, yet, it’s unfixed. I’m considering returning my monitor and purchasing its bigger brother, the FO32U2P, hoping that its DisplayPort 2.1 port will not be affected by this issue when driven by an RTX 50xx card that is rumored to support DisplayPort 2.1 Any way to fix this issue, or is there an ETA? I confirm that, according to Flickering artifacts 3440*1440@240Hz MSI Geforce 4080, the issue persists! I disabled the Allow Flipping option a while ago, but re-enabling it resurfaces the issue. At least we have a workaround this time.

I have the same issue. Running windows 11 with Zotac rtx 4080 Super Monitor is Gigabyte M34WQ Driver 566.36 At 3440x1440 @ 144hz and 100hz I get the flickering. They dont appear at 60hz. The issue persists with all dp ports. When switching to hdmi 3440x1440@100hz there is no flickering. Changing output color depth and output color format seems to affect the issue, but can’t find any solution yet.

Still experiencing this problem with driver version 570.124.04 with an RTX 4080 SUPER and Samsung G80SD monitor connected via HDMI 2.1. Selecting 4k 240 Hz (in Wayland) results in an extremely laggy mess with a lagging cursor, severe tearing when moving windows and input lag. Artifacting in the form of cyan dots moving all over the screen is visible on the monitor. I can provide a video if needed. Dialing things down to 120Hz results in silky smooth performance. I’ve also run into this issue on X11/i3 so I’m sure it has nothing to do with the desktop environment. nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (618.4 KB)

This is still an issue as of 23/03/25 with driver 570.133.07. The only workaround for me on a 165hz G7 Neo monitor is to drop down to 120hz (which doesn’t use DSC). I have tried different cables, both HDMI and DisplayPort and both X11 + Wayland but the issue persists. GPU is an RTX 4080 Super.

Adding in that I am experiencing this issue as well. My info: Nobara 42 (Fedora) Wayland Kernel 6.14.6-200.nobara.fc42.x86_64 4080 Super Proprietary driver 570.144 Can confirm that the only thing that fixes this so far is by dropping from 200hz to 144hz.

I have this exact same issue with the same G80SD monitor, and like you, I use NixOS (but with KDE Plasma as the desktop environment). I went crazy even trying to report it as a KDE bug, but it’s clearly an issue related to the HDMI 2.1 protocol on Linux and Nvidia. A couple of notes that might be useful for @abchauhan: Stability with HDMI 2.1 at 120 Hz is perfect, with no visible flickering artifacts whatsoever. When switching to 240 Hz, the monitor behaves exactly as if 60 Hz were selected (as shown in @starcraft66’s video), and this can also be confirmed using Blur Busters. It’s not an issue specific to the desktop environment, as I ran several tests and in all of them the monitor is running at 240 Hz — it’s just that somehow 3/4 of the frames are being dropped or skipped. I suspect this might be related to how DSC is implemented in Linux for HDMI 2.1. I know there have been issues with AMD in this regard, but I’m not sure what the current situation is with Nvidia. Using a DP 1.4 cable solves the 240 Hz issue — it works correctly and as smooth as butter on my NixOS installation — but it introduces the flickering artifacts mentioned by the OP. Interestingly, these artifacts are also present in Windows 11. I don’t know if this is due to the quality of my DisplayPort cable, the DP port on my monitor, or how DSC works, but the artifacts appear regardless of whether I use Linux or Windows at both 240 Hz and 120 Hz. This is honestly a very frustrating issue because it prevents us from fully taking advantage of our monitor through HDMI 2.1 when using Linux (even though HDMI is the connection that works best and unlocks the monitor’s full potential in Windows). As for me, I’m willing to contribute testing and time as needed to help improve HDMI 2.1 support for Nvidia/Linux and find a solution, since it’s quite important for my use case. Even if that means using beta or experimental drivers, I’m open to participating. Thanks in advance.

I have the same monitor and a 4080. Also having this issue
However, I managed to mitigate it by using a icc color profile (I’m using kde).
It still shows some tearing in the same area, but almost imperceptible.
