DLSS 2 and frame generation

Hello! I would like to know whether the frame generation itself renders the frames in native resolution if I do not use DLSS 2 upscaling in games? As far as I can see, the DLSS 3 technology is a combination of DLSS2, Frame Generation, and Nvidia Reflex. Is that correct?

If my previous sentence is not true, whether the DLSS 3 itself upscales image, besides of creating additional frames? If that is so, please clarify, when it works together with DLSS 2, the image is upscaled 2 times?

Hi there @cr4zyg3n1us and welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums!

I think this blog post Introducing NVIDIA DLSS 3 | GeForce News | NVIDIA describes the interaction of DLSS and Optical Multiframe Generation very nicely. It is a bit older and version numbering and naming might have changed slightly, but the principles are unchanged and it should answer your questions.

And please also check out the newest information regarding DLSS Frame Generation fresh from GDC.

Frame Generation creates frames at the desired output resolution. DLSS scales content up from a percentage of the desired output resolution. There will not be double upscaling.

Yes, that is correct.
