Hello all,
I am trying to connect 2 U2713D in a daisy chain manner with the hardware and system stated in the title (Debian 7). Basically, only the first monitor is detected and I get the same image in both monitors.
There is a discussion in the Dell forums where a Dell employee states that the issue is on nVidia’s side and that we should ask here for a solution:
“Replacing the monitor will not fix the issue. We contacted Nvidia. They are aware that not all of their video cards currently support our monitors DDC/CI when DP1.2 is enabled. You need to press Nvidia and ask why your video card does not support DDC/CI when DP1.2 is enabled and when are they going to fix it.”
Is nVidia at least aware of this issue?
This doesn’t sound like a DDC/CI problem, but rather a basic functionality problem. Having it appear as one monitor and mirror the display onto the other monitor sounds like it’s running in DisplayPort 1.1 mode.
Which GPU are you connecting this monitor to, and have you enabled DP 1.2 MST support in the monitor’s configuration menu? Please attach the output of “xrandr --verbose” when both monitors are attached.
EDIT: I upgraded to 325.08 and have the same issue.
The video card is an NVS 5200M on a Dell E6530 docked in a EPort 2.
Both monitors are Dell U2713H (typo in the title). They are both configured for DP 1.2 (selected at the menu) and are daisy chained as described in the user manual (page 26):ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_electronics/esuprt_Display/dell-u2713h_User’s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Sorry, I should have noticed from your post title: the NVS 5200M is a Fermi (GF108) GPU. DisplayPort 1.2 requires GF119 or Kepler.

I know that has been a few months, but the nvs for notebooks page indicates up to 3 external displays for the 5200M, and the newer NVS products for desktop explicitly state that they support DisplayPort 1.2 with MST.
Can we clarify whether the NVS 5200M and the NVS 5400M support DisplayPort 1.2 with Multi-Stream Transport (MST)? I am attempting to buy a laptop that will support MST and it is incredibly painful to know which models support it, and many OEM vendors are not familiar with this particular technology so asking them is always a dead-end and painful.
The NVS 5200M and 5400M definitely do not support DP 1.2. I would suggest contacting sales & marketing to find the right product for your needs.

It is good to know that the NVIDIA NVS 5200M and the NVIDIA NVS 5400M do not support DisplayPort 1.2 with Multi-Stream Transport (MST).
How can I contact sales and marketing at NVIDIA for the USA? I can’t seem to find any links on the website that would lead me there. Should I just use the general contact form ?
Seems to me the issue here is the DP 1.2 not the MST. If its DP 1.1 it wont have enough bandwidth to run two displays at 2560x1440 (or really at 1.1 it would be maxing the bandwidth). Does the xorg.log say the DFP link is 480 Mhz (dp 1.1) or 960 Mhz (1.2)?
I don’t see anywhere on that tech page that says its DP 1.2.
Sadly not all kepler is DP 1.2 either. I was kind of sad to find out the DP in my macbook pro retina was only 1.1 when (gt 650m) when a desktop gtx 650 or 670 are dp 1.2. Just because the desktop model is 1.2 doesn’t mean the mobile version is.

So I found a pastebin of someone with a 5200M:

So it looks like DP 1.1 to me. I would think you could run one at 2560x1440 and one at 1920x1080 or something or maybe both at 2560x1440 at a lower refresh rate with custom modes and stuff? Even at reduced blanking 2560x1440@60h is 241.5 Mhz so two would be 483 Mhz (just above the 480 Mhz display port 1.1 max).
