GTX 1050Ti not working since last Fedora 26 update ~28-10-17

Hi

Since last update on 28/10/2017 the nvidia driver stop to work. I’m using the driver from rpmfusion.

Already removed and installed again, but still not working.

nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (64.2 KB)

According to the logs it looks like no nvidia driver is installed at all, even the nouveau blacklist is not in place anymore. So it’s not failing, it just can’t be found. Since you’re able to run nvidia-bug-report.sh, the driver is obviously installed. Looks like a packaging error somehow. Maybe see where the files end up on reinstalling.

Thanks @generix for looking into the report.

I’ve been trying others things and as I was almost hopping to another more nvidia friendly distro, I decided to try upgrade to Fedora 27 beta.

At beginning it didn’t work but after update the system (dnf update) it start to work again.

update.txt (36.3 KB)

Looking at the update.txt you were missing the nvidia module for the running kernel before. This explains why it wasn’t found. Seems like F26 upgraded the kernel but didn’t provide a matching nvidia driver.

I tried to install Fedora 27 RC_6 on my laptop ASUS N580VD-FI038T.
I had to boot the Live Distro using low res 800x600.
This laptop has a dual graphic card Intel / Nvidia 1050.
I tried to install te plain nouveau driver, the closed source Nvidia driver (from Nvidia, rpmfusion and negativo17, I tried the Bumblebee - NVIDIA Optimus support for Linux, and I tried PRIME as well.
Simply no luck, it’s not working.
Any help is very appreciated!
Did someone succeed in configuring the 1050 card/Intel card properly? how?
Thank you in advance

If this is really an Optimus system you will first have to get the intel gpu working. For a start, please post the output of

It’s indeed an Optimus system with an Intel Skylake. The driver (i915) is available but not loaded, probably due to missing firmware files. Please post the output of
rpm -ql linux-firmware | fgrep i915
if it complains about linux-firmware not being installed, install it, reboot and post the output of
lspci -v -s00:02.0

generix,
it looks like rpm is already installed:

rpm -ql linux-firmware | fgrep i915

while
lspci -v -s00:02.0 says:

thank you :)

if it might me of interest:

lsmod | grep 915

So it seems everything is in place but the lspci command should also have the line
Kernel driver in use: i915
Please run
sudo dmesg >dmesg.txt
and attach that together with the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log to your post.

ok, attached.

Xorg.0.log (23.2 KB)
dmesg.txt (80.9 KB)

The kernel is not even trying to load the i915 driver. Please check if it is blacklisted, post the output of:
grep i915 /etc/modprobe.d/*

grep i915 /etc/modprobe.d/* gives empty answer.

Meh. Just saw that you have ‘nomodeset’ as kernel parameter. Remove that.
