GTX 1080 with 367.44 driver, can't install CUDA 7.5

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to install CUDA 7.5 in a GTX 1080 enabled system with SLC 6.8 (linux) installed and with 367.44 driver version. When trying to run the local runfile, I get an error message saying that “nvidia.ko” kernel module can’t be inserted correctly.

Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting ‘./kernel/nvidia.ko’: -1 No such device
[but apparently nvidia.ko was correctly installed when 367.44 driver was]

The NVIDIA GPU 0000:02:00.0 (PCI ID: 10de:1b80) [which is a GTX 1080]
installed in this system is not supported by the 352.39 [when I have installed 367.44 version]

Am I missing something here, or does someone have a similar issue.

I would suggest installing CUDA 8RC for any Pascal GPUs, including your GTX 1080.

When using the runfile installer, keep your 367.44 driver and deselect (answer “no”) when prompted to install the driver that comes with the CUDA 8RC toolkit.
