Help with Nvidia Graphics Drivers on Linux Mint 20

I am using the GeForce 1660 super, I tried installing the proprietary drivers from both the website and through the driver manager, both of them make the login screen to boot up black and freeze, as I cannot blindly log in. In other terms I am pretty sure xorg crashed. Does anyone know a fix for this? I have researched multiple hours on this with no luck.

on a clean install run the following command to install the driver
“sudo apt install nvidia-driver-440” works fine for me on my clevo NH55RDQ (i7 9750H, RTX2060, linux mint 20).

There is no version of the proprietary Nvidia drivers that work on my current Linux system. I am using the open source Nouveau drivers in order to function now. Unfortunately, that driver lacks support for the 2nd monitor and other features. I really need the full use of my Nvidia card again. (It worked in the older Linux Mint 19.3 based on Ubuntu 18.04.)

I recently updated to Linux Mint 20.0 / Cinnamon, based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa).
I have a GeForce GTX 780 video card in my ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING motherboard.

If I try to use the Nvidia drivers (and I even tried to manually download the new 450 drivers), and reboot my system, I never seen a login screen. I get an unblinking underscore character in the top left corner of the screen. Eventually, I’ll get some pretty dark blue pixels scattered around the screen. Then I have to reboot, go into recovery mode, and switch to Nouveau drivers.

Is there any additional info that would help your programmers solve this problem?

P.S. You can find plenty of other people having problems in Linux Mint 20 with other NVidia cards as well. Nobody seems to know why some systems work and others absolutely don’t.
