I am using Ubuntu 22, i tried nvidia drivers 530, 525, 510, 470. but in all when change the PRIME PROFILE to Performance mode screen is freezes, cannot work any more. Moreover, after i install any of nvidia driver windowing system is changed to x11 from Wayland.
My laptop is - Asus Rog Strix
My GPU is - Geforce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile
Hello @sajeewadilshansl and welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums.
If there are screen freezes in performance mode you should first try to check temperatures and power limits. Possibly contact the Laptop manufacturer if there are limitations for using it with Linux.
You can use the extensive monitoring capabilities of nvidia-smi
to check power and power states as well as temperature.
Regarding Wayland you should be able to re-enable it. But since Wayland support is still considered Beta, it might be that the current driver automatically falls back to X11, I am not certain.
@MarkusHoHo Thank you very much for your comment. I will try it and update the status soon.
I checked the temperatures and power limits, but there are no issues with them. The screen freezes more often with Nvidia drivers 530, 525, and 510, but with Nvidia 470, the screen rarely freezes. Could you please explain why this is happening?
Could you please explain why this is happening?
That is something I cannot answer to be honest.
Can you share the detailed specs of your Laptop please, including Display refresh rate?
Then also run nvidia-bug-report.sh
and attach the resulting log file here.
Do these screen freezes happen only with the internal monitor or is it with an external monitor?
Did you update to the latest Laptop BIOS and did you check with the Laptop manufacturer for Linux compatibility?
My laptop specs
This screen freezes happens in internal display. yes i updated the BIOS.

sorry, I was unable to fix it
Hi again,
sorry for the delay, I was out for some time.
Looking at the log there is not much to go by, but two things stand out:
(EE) AMDGPU(G0): Setting DRM property blob failed with errno -13
(EE) AMDGPU(G0): Setting Gamma LUT failed with errno 1
(EE) AMDGPU(G0): Setting DRM property blob failed with errno -13
(EE) AMDGPU(G0): Setting Gamma LUT failed with errno 1
and
kernel: [drm:nv_drm_master_set [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to grab modeset ownership
This seems like some driver mismatch or authentication issue. So the recommendation now would be to make sure to get the latest BIOS update for the laptop as well as the latest AMD GPU driver for Ubuntu and the latest NVIDIA driver. Most of all make sure to either disable secure boot or to exactly follow the signing requirements during driver installations to avoid the DRM errors.
I hope that helps!
Some problem to me, ubuntu20.04+nvidia v535,randomly crash/freeze when selecting “performance” mode
