If you are an msi gt83vr user, don't install any drivers from 531.18 onward

Hi markus
I’ve MSI GT83 8RF with gtx 1070 ti Sli And I have the same issue on any nividia driver after 528.49
On both windows 11 and 10

Unless I disable SLI the drivers above 528.49 would work normally but if SLI is enabled it will freeze or stutter as reported

Hi mustafahareth94. I will ask again to be absolutely sure. When you disable SLI in the nVidia control panel, the latest display drivers work properly… correct?
I’m currently using Win 10

hi wizardx

yes all drivers after 528.49 works when SLI is disabled i’ve tried every single driver even 560.94 and all with the same issue none works when SLI is enabled , but all works when its disabled . but im still stick to 528.49

OK. Thank you for the info.

As of 09/14/2024 version 561.09 released on 9/11/2024 DOES NOT WORK!!
Do NOT install Black screens on installation. Upon restart show installed but is stutters and freezes just running OS. I have attached my dxdiag as well.
DxDiag.txt (141.1 KB)

528.49 released 02/08/2023 (over a year and a half old) are still the only currently working driver for your MSI Laptops.

PS: PLEASE all of you report your problems on their current driver forum as well. We got to be loud and consistent to get some help. I will also be filling a report to MSI on this issue again. Your laptops will be paperweights soon if they don’t fix this. report here:

Thank you for the update. No news from my side I am afraid.

Hello,

has anyone installed the latest version and observed the problem again? I think a new version was released today.

I have a GT83RG and I am happy to see this thread. a few months ago I had a correspondence with msi support and when I told them about this problem, their only suggestion was to install the first driver in the msi drive section. I can use Sli in this way, and in the new versions, since there is stuttering, it works when sli is disabled, but I cannot get performance. Thank you for the suggestions, I will try to switch to the last version where sli works, I will try to switch to the last version where sli works, I will keep track of the issue, I hope we will overcome this annoying situation together.

Hey fellow sli laptop owners, I have some bad news.
I just saw that Nvidia stopped support for sli the month before our latest working driver.
Nvidia will not be fixing this system breaking decision. Sorry everyone half your laptop’s gpu are now useless if not a complete hindrance!

@MarkusHoHo

Hi MarkusHoHO.Do you know anything about this? Is there anything going on in our problem?

The end of official SLI support in newer drivers had been announced a long time ago already.
That does not mean that older drive trains like the v530 drive train, might not still get critical updates.
NVIDIA is still updating old v470 drivers for example, with occasional security patches at least.

Beside that yes, the internal bug trying to get to the bottom of this specific issue here is still alive and kicking, but I cannot share more detail, I am sorry.

HI,
I’ve also been having the same driver issue on my “GT83VR-7RE 1070 SLI” for a while and have also been stuck on 528.49 on win10. Just installed 24H2 (latest windows 11) and the os “update” does not load any GeForce graphics driver only audio driver is installed.
I was going to install the latest graphics driver but having found and read this thread I will skip it and wait until this issue is fixed. Come on NVIDIA!

So I guess it remains to disable one card from SLI and use these laptops anyway…

I might have found a solution. This is what I did. I’m not sure if the first part is necessary, but this is how I got it to work:

Download DDU
Download NVCleanstall
Restart computer in Safe Mode
Run NVCleanstall and install latest drivers (remove all components except the driver)
Restart Computer-> micro stuttering
Restart in Safe Mode
Run DDU
Run SFC/SCANNOW in CMD (Admin?)
-errors found and fixed.
Run NVCleanstall - remove all components except driver.

After doing this my GT73VR 6RE Titan SLI seems to be working on latest drivers without incident.

However I can’t seem to get most games running in SLI. Do we still need to edit profile hex codes with Inspector? Anyone know how to get Dead by Daylight, Bloodbowl 2,3 or Final Fantasy 16 to work in SLI?

I need your help i have msi gt83vr 1070 gpu I stack in 370 version please help me.

Hello brettsidford.Does your method still work after some testing?Do the drivers work fine? Can you tell me again step by step exactly how to do it?I have to use an English translator.I’m a bit lost in your instructions. I decided to take the risk of installing new drivers and I had a bad experience with it and I don’t want to make a mess again.

Hiya, I have the same issue. I’m starting to be cut off from playing the latest games and developing with specific tools due to the requirement for newer drivers, but upon installation, I lose almost all control. It takes me over 30 minutes to open the Nvidia Control Panel to shut SLI off or to get DDU to uninstall my drivers.

I only got this laptop recently due to my main PC failing and not having enough money to replace it.

It’s upsetting to see newer drivers actively damaging this laptop, which was such a great laptop.
Not to mention, using a single GPU, I lose so much performance in older games and newer games. I still lose some performance because of Nvidia SLI compatibility bit options that help with many more of the latest games.

Have you tried the brettsidford method? Because I don’t have the strength to go through this…

I honestly don’t have the strength to go through at one frame a minute to do it all again.
I was forced to update to the latest drivers and found that my drivers are unstable in single GPU mode. Projecting my monitor will fill with noise in some areas where the picture doesn’t update. And if some multiplayer games, people die randomly from incorrect physics. Palworld and Helldivers, I seem to be notorious for killing people who use Mechs by them just randomly dying, and it doesn’t trigger any anti-cheat or anything like that, so at this point, Nvidia not fixing this issue is becoming an exploit that multiple games devs may even have to fix. If I minimize some games, they stutter for other people, too.

So I understand that there are also problems with SLI disabled?

Yeah, even with it disabled on that driver I’m getting all sorts of issues, and using it with SLI enabled causes far more issues for other people in games. Recently I’ve been getting lots of bright dots that sparkle over the screen before a game will crash but only after updating to the latest drivers and restoring back to the older ones
