Application profiles for the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver, version 331.17

Last modified: Thu Oct 17 09:33:59 PDT 2013

These profiles were provided by NVIDIA and should not be modified. If you

wish to change the defaults provided here, you can override them by creating

custom rules in /etc/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-rc (which will apply

system-wide) or, for a given user, $HOME/.nv/nvidia-application-profiles-rc

(which will apply to that particular user). See the "APPLICATION PROFILE

SEARCH PATH" section of the NVIDIA Linux Graphics Driver README for more

information.

Any Idea?

I’ve got the same laptop with what sounds like the same problem, though I’m running Arch with kernel 3.11.6-1 and nvidia 325.15-10.

I can boot to a prompt just fine, but as soon as I try to start a desktop environment I get some errors about not being able to find a screen or something like that. I didn’t have any SLI configuration set and even tried it with the second GPU removed (modular on this model). I don’t have access to the system at the moment but can gather information and post further details if it will be helpful.

ubuntu 13.10 works just fine… if you need any info from me please let me know.
only thing I can remember at this moment, i had to enable legacy boot support in bios to boot into graphics (sorry for noob language, I’m new to linux but I want to learn)

Karagra, I think you have uefi mode installed OS, Is the issue reproduce in legacy bios mode installed OS?

I have same problem, but with dual gt755m, same y510p laptop. Running system with legacy mode not helped.

It’s mormal, that lspci displays only one VGA device, but nvidia control panel and clinfo displays two?

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit. I get the same error messages. Lspci | grep VGA only displays one nVidia Geforce GT 755M GPU. I installed the nVidia 331.38 graphics driver by searching for additional drivers and it worked. However, the second nVidia Geforce GT 755M GPU is not detected and SLi does not work on the second screen. What is going on here? How can I get both of them to work in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit GNU/Linux?

Update:

I have Legacy Boot with Legacy First enabled in my BIOS.

How do I upload my nVidia bug report here?
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (350 KB)

Is someone at nVidia GNU/Linux taking a look at these issues and is there going to be a fix to this problem to enable nVidia SLi for mobile GPUs or not? It’s been 8 months and counting so far.

I can confirm the issue, there’s not a single driver release since the added support for GT 755M that works with SLI (tested personally). My system is Slackware64 14.1 with a 3.15.0 kernel and SLI isn’t working under Legacy BIOS or UEFI. However under Windows it’s working perfectly fine (shocker). Someone stated that the Linux Driver team is significantly smaller than the Windows driver team and I understand that, however mind that Unreal engine (among a dozen other things) is coming to Linux natively and it’s going to be neat if we can actually use our video card duo on our OS of choice.

I just called nVidia Corporation and Monsoor told me that they do support nVidia SLi for mobile GPUs for the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P notebook PC in GNU/Linux. He said that he will e-mail me detailed instructions on how to get it to work properly in a few minutes. He also said that I can call nVidia Corporation for technical support if I run into a problem. It is supported and as soon as I get the instructions, I will post it here.

We shall see if this works or not.

He sent me this document. He told me that I have to rely on the nVidia GNU/Linux team for support here on this forum.

I get this error:

wellywu@IDEAPADY510P:~$ lspci | grep -i vga

It’s not detecting my second nVidia Geforce GT 755M GPU. How do I fix this problem? I haven’t tried the instructions yet as I’m not sure if they will work if the second GPU is not detected.

How do I get nVidia SLi to work with my Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P?

http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/340.17/README/sli.html

It looks like the nVidia 340.17 Beta graphics driver for GNU/Linux supports SLi and multi-GPU frame rendering. It doesn’t require a runlevel=1 to install it. I’m not going to attempt this until someone else does. Can someone at nVidia test this with a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit GNU/Linux? Thanks.

Is this the VBIOS update that is necessary for the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P:

  1. http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS038407 ?

I called Lenovo Idea technical support and they told me that they do not support GNU/Linux distributions for their Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P notebook PC. They only support Microsoft Windows with the specific version that was pre-installed on the Y510P. So, they have no information about a VBIOS update to enable the second nVidia Geforce GT 750/755M 2 GB VRAM GPU.
