MAC CUDA driver fully compatible with macOS High Sierra 10.13 (error

Just wanted to let everyone know about this Youtube video. It’s the easiest way I’ve found to fix the problem but I’m not experiences enough to know if it actually fixes the problem or just puts a bandage on it.

This is not working for me, running OS 10.13.2.

After a long frustrating weekend i finally got it working!

MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2
GeForce GTX 680MX
CUDA Driver Version: 387.99

This where my steps:

 1. High sierra 10.13.2 fresh install (started from fresh install because i thought it was a macos issue)
 2. Install latest CUDA Driver Version: 387.99 → reboot
 3. Disabled System Integrity Protection with step 1 from this tutorial http://www.chrisjmendez.com/2017/05/02/modify-systemversion-plist-within-macos-sierra/ → reboot
 4. Change MAC OS system version to 17C89 with this tutorial http://justindaigle.com/blog/2010/02/tutorial-change-mac-os-x-system-version/ → reboot
 5. Install NVIDIA Alternate Graphics Drivers for macOS 10.13.2 (WebDriver-378.10.10.10.25.103.pkg) (17C89) https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/378/WebDriver-378.10.10.10.25.103.pkg (won’t install with system version 17C88) → reboot

Done!

Did try to reverse the system version back to 17C88 with these steps but that breaks the fix again:
6. Change MAC OS system version back to 17C88 with same tutorial from step 4. → reboot
7. Enable System Integrity Protection with step 1 from step 3 tutorial but type csrutil enable instead → reboot

Hi web_vis934

Thank you so much! I have been frustrated too, but your steps did solve my problem too. My Premiere Pro is recognizing cuda again.

macOS High Sierra
10.13.2 (17C89)

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
2,7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1 GB
CUDA Driver Version: 387.99

Guys, nothing works for me. I tried everything several times.
Has anyone gotten this to work on a mid 2014 MBP?

OH man I finally figured out what worked for me. Daciang, I tried everything and had no results. I contacted Nvidia, and they said it was an Apple Issue at this point. I got on support with Apple, and they lead me to a working solution.

I had updated everything NVIDIA and Apple to it’s latest updates. I’m on High Sierra 10.13.2 (17C89) and my CUDA driver is 387.99 (just released). GPU driver version is 378.10.10.10.25.103. Still, I wasn’t able to switch over to my graphics card and the cuda preferences tab still said “update required”.

Apple had me reset my SMC and NVRAM, and upon rebooting for the second time, IT WORKED! I couldn’t believe it.

It seems too simple:

then,

After you’ve reset the NVRAM, shut down your computer again and then turn it on. Everything should work. Good luck!

-I currently have macOS 10.13.2 (17C88) running on a late MacBook Pro 2013 15’’ with the GT 750M

-CUDA Driver is 387.99 (latest driver)

-GPU Driver version is 355.11.10.10.20.111

-I tried the Reset SMC and Reset NVRAM and both didn’t work. The CUDA window still pops up and the driver isn’t being recognized.

-So basically what I need to do is update the GPU Driver version from 355.11.10.10.20.111 to 378.10.10.10.25.102?
Using this link? Quadro & GeForce macOS Driver Release 378.10.10.10.25.102 | 378.10.10.10.25.102 | | NVIDIA

-I have a question regarding the above update, first is it similar to a firmware update? So if I format my mac in the future, will the GPU Driver version remain as 378.10.10.10.25.102? On the page in the link above it shows my mac (macbook pro 11,3 late 2013) as beta support. I

-Will all this be resolved if NVIDIA release a simple CUDA update in the future that solves all those problems?

Hi nicolaselhanionline
After resetting SMC and NVRAM I had to use NVIDIA Web Driver which can be downloaded from here: https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/378/WebDriver-378.10.10.10.25.103.pkg and after installation can be selected in NVIDIA Driver Manager.

Thanks, alexk1osz.
Still can’t get it to work though… I have this problem:
OS version is 10.13.2 (17C89)
On the cuda preferences pop-up that still shows up it says: GPU Driver Version: 355.11.10.10.20.111
BUT in the Nvidia driver manager it says the driver version is 378.10.10.10.25.103

Cuda is still not an option for me and I still get the annoying pop-up.

:((

As others have stated, thank you so much. I followed the instructions and had no errors. The only difference is now there is a 10.13.2 version now and a slightly newer driver available (graphics driver, not CUDA). Anyway, install went just fine, and I now have an Nvidia icon in my system tray along with a Cuda icon…but I still get that dang error! Any thoughts?

I talked to an Apple Senior Advisor today and he had no other input than what is already listed in this thread.
I did find out something though, and that is: “Cuda is not yet fully supported on High Sierra”
The state my computer is in right now: Uninstalled driver, installed only the Web driver. No more error message but Cuda not supported by Premiere, Resolve, etc.
This is on a 2014 macbook pro. On other machines it might be different.

Well…I followed the steps outlined in the original post (thanks again for posting it), and with 10.2 everything installed with no errors, but I still get that annoying prompt that comes up. The good news is that Photoshop is using the GPU, so I will wait for a more “real” fix.

Hola a todos. — Mac osX 10.13.2 (17C88) vs Mac osX 10.13.2 (17C89) —

Nvidia Web Driver updates for macOS High Sierra (UPDATE Nov 13, 2020) - nVidia | InsanelyMac

Pasos que seguí:
MacBook Pro - Mac osX 10.13.2 (17C88)
1.- Lo primero que hice fue desintalar con appzapper todo el driver que pedía actualización.
2.- Reiniciar
3.- Descargar driver 9.0.222 Page Not Found | NVIDIA
4.- Instalar macosx-cuda-9.0.222-driver
5.- Seguir los pasos de este videotutorial - YouTube
6.- Descargar Nvidia Web Driver - 378.10.10.10.25.102 para la compilación 17C88
Nvidia Web Driver updates for macOS High Sierra (UPDATE Nov 13, 2020) - nVidia | InsanelyMac
7.- Instalar Nvidia Web Driver - 378.10.10.10.25.102 → compilación 17C88
8.- Reiniciar y actualizar todo OK

Saludos a todos!!

Will this work with a late 2012 imac geforce gtx 680 2 gb?

The youtube video worked great for me. Thanks!

bien!

Hola blaisemcnicholas

Saludos y buena suerte!

What a day, what a day!

The steps from web_vis934 did work for me, so I was happy as f*ck after all these struggles. My octane in c4d worked again!

But, after I enabled the System Integrity Protection for security reasons, my iMac didn’t boot anymore and got stuck at the Apple logo. When I try, to boot it with the Reset NVRAM combination, it boots perfeclty, but the web driver switched back the the OS X Default Graphics Driver and Octane didn’t work anymore. When I put it back on the Nvidia Web Driver, I restart the system and yet again it freezes… So there is still no solution for me either.

Maybe someone knows the solution to this one last step? It’s to risky to work with the System Integrity Protection disabled.

My specs:

iMac 21,5 Late 2012
macOS High Sierra - 10.13.2 (17C89 = converted from 17C88 with the tutorial link from web_vis934)
NVIDIA Geforce GT 650M 512 MB

Hola leroy3,
