Mini PCI Card Installation Questions

An alternative might be to install the Grinch for 21.2 (https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/795734/embedded-systems/-customkernel-the-grinch-21-2-1-for-jetson-tk1/), but 21.2 has a couple of show stoppers on the network side currently, the biggest being that 1GB ethernet is not reliable.

All I’d need to replace is the /etc/rc.local, cfg80211.ko, and mac80211.ko files, right? Where can I find these original files? What distribution files?

The “.ko” files are kernel modules. You can create those if you have kernel source for your currently running kernel, combined with the config from /proc/config.gz. You would possibly edit /etc/rc.local (not replace). The kernel modules themselves are located at a subdirectory of:

/lib/modules/`uname -r`

If you are using the grinch kernel, you would use that source; if you are using what the Jetson has by default from your L4T, you would use the kernel source from nVidia.

I re-flashed 21.2.1. Jetsonhacks created a video on the WiFi subject and I purchased the same card and antenna. Of course, 21.2.1 already has the correct driver. My WiFi is still not working. I can only connect to my signal, not actually use it.

Once you can connect I would guess that the driver is working and that from there it is a case of finding out how Ubuntu configures wireless in general. There may be firmware or user space application configuration requirements.

#2-56 x 3/16" screws fit perfectly: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Machine-Finish-Phillips-Threads/dp/B006OAFPJ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421335866&sr=8-1&keywords=%232-56+x+3%2F16"+screw

Hi, Does anyone know if the screw holding down the wifi card has to be a specific material? eg. nickel plated

I use just an ordinary low quality steel. I think if you wanted to be certain you’d perhaps use stainless. I have not heard of any particular requirements.
