I am attaching my flash log. Would like to understand the meaning of Return Value 8 from tegrarcm_v2. I am running with our own carrier board with Orin NX.

I don’t think the meaning of return values matters much here. The same error message may be caused by many different reasons, and experiences from other people may not help you.
I remember you have some post also regarding flashing Orin NX with custom carrier boards the other days. Is the situation the same now?
Can you try if your device can get into UEFI when you only flash the QSPI memory? What does UART give you when the flashing process fail?
I was doing the flash command from the Virtual BoxVM and that has a known issue with USB interfaces. I converted over to a WMWare virtual machine and now my flash command seems to run but at the end it times out.

Ran the QSPI flash command again and it ran thru succesfully but was this supposed to flash the kernel and OS too? I only saw the Boot config stuff get flashed into QSPI.

please ignore my previous comment about only flashing QSPI memory. Does UART output anything during the flashing process?
You need to get a real Ubuntu PC first, and some users can get it fixed by disabling auto suspend on their host PC with the following command:
sudo -s
echo -1 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend
If it still does not work, try for a different USB cable/port or a different host PC.
I moved over to use a WMWare virtual machine and the usb seems to be working better. When I run the flash command:
sudo ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh --external-device nvme0n1p1 -c tools/kernel_flash/flash_l4t_external.xml -p “-c bootloader/t186ref/cfg/flash_t234_qspi.xml” --network usb0 --showlogs jetson-orin-nx-varmint-ai internal

There is no uart output.
Does flashing with a real Ubuntu PC make any change?
I don’t have access to a Linux PC, went to using a WMWare VM and that seems to keep the device connected.

Yes, and that’s why we suggest flashing Jetson devices using real host PCs, as a VM may not be able to handle it if connection and disconnection happen too frequently.
Interesting observation, I can mount /dev/sda1 /mnt on my VM and see that the filesystem is empty after the bootloader is running.
