No sound

Hi,

When i run espeak-ng with

espeak-ng "hello"

i get sound output. But when i run

sudo -u <user_name> espeak-ng "hello"

i hear no sound output. How can i fix this.

It looks to be a permission issue. It is similar to

Please add the user to Vide group for a try.

Hi,

I tried adding user to video. I also tried adding user to audio, pulse and pulse-access. But it didn’t work. My use case is that i need to run a python script on startup and there are parts of the code that needs to run with root privileges (eq. accessing serial port) and some other parts of code that needs to be run without root privileges (eq. playing audio).

Is this still an issue to support? Any result can be shared?

The issue is not resolved. I was planning to check whether the issue exists on a fresh jetpack image. But hav not done it yet.

I tried running the command on a fresh install of jp6.2.1 on orin nano and i get no sound output.

Please try aplay command like:

See if there is audio output when running $ sudo -u <user_name> aplay … command

aplay also gives no sound output.

This should narrow down that the user does not have permission to audio output. Would suggest investigate this. May also see if other users can share experience.

using -E solved the issue.

sudo -Eu <user_name> espeak-ng "hello"
