Hello I was gaming fine for a long time using the nvidia-driver-535 (recommended) on my laptop running ZorinOS but after a Nvidia update few days ago to a newer version of 535, it boots to a black screen. I can see the Zorin symbol, it animates and says Zorin, then it goes black. I could hear the startup sound so I know the system booted into the OS, I just have a black screen. I specifically remember seeing “nvidia-firmware-535-535.86.05” installed as part of that update recently that I never noticed as part of the package before. I booted to GRUB and purged everything Nvidia, then reverted to the Nouveau driver where everything is working again after a reboot, except games running poorly of course… I tried installing previous versions like 525 and 470, but same issue with the black screen. I purged everything Nvidia each time before restarting and seeing the Nouveau driver working fine, and then trying a different version. I was able to install nvidia-driver-535-open which booted into the OS with no black screen, but then the GPU was not recognized in nvidia-settings. Once again I am reverted back to the Nouveau driver. I’m on Kernel 5.15.0-76-generic… It seems there is a bug with whatever was updated recently, but it also affected the 525 and 470 packages. It’s so strange the 535-open booted. Any ideas?
Also I’m trying to upload the nvidia-bug-report.sh but it just keeps processing. Not sure if it’ll upload. Thanks for any help you can give.
