Nvidia driver freezes on KDE neon after upgrade to 18.04

KDE neon has recently received an update from 16.04 to 18.04. After upgrading it I have installed the proprietary drivers through the repo (Proprietary GPU Drivers : “Graphics Drivers” team).

sudo apt install nvidia-drivers-396

Some windows freeze. It’s very clear in google chrome and in clementine (the music player). It seems to happen when there is some rendering load.

In order to unfreeze a window, I resize it. This seems to “refresh” or “repaint” the window.

For google chrome try opening many windows with many tabs. I usually have more than 3 chrome windows with about 50 tabs open. For clementine, try setting the framerate of the visualizer to 60fps. This may help reproduce the problem. Also note that I have Plasma configured for 16 “virtual desktops” or “workspaces”.
