nvidia-smi and nvidia-settings not working properly on Ubuntu 18.04 with GeForce RTX 2060

So I have an ASUS TUF-Gaming FX-505-DV, with AMD Ryzen 7 and GeForce RTX 2060, with nvidia-driver-440 installed, that I want to use for deep learning research.

When I run nvidia-smi, it shows no running processes found, and when I run nvidia-settings I get an error.

Also on Ubuntu Settings->Details it shows that nvidia is not being used for Graphics.

Switching to nvidia-driver-435 got me caught in a login-loop, which was resolved by switching from lightdm to gdm.
