I am running Linux Mint 20.3 with an NVIDIA Geforce 1080 F.E. graphics card. My system is using driver 470.86. I have an NVIDIA Utility labeled ‘NVIDIA X Server Settings’. As best I recall, this utility formerly included a brightness adjustment setting. The current version does not. I find x Window settings don’t work which makes me think that I need an NVIDIA brightness control.
