problem installing PGI 7.1-2 on Ubuntu 7.10

hi all,

I want to install PGI workstation 7.1-2 under Ubuntu 7.10 but there are a probleme with the (./install) command, it’s not working,
Is there any solution please.

Hi Nordine,

It could be the same problem with sh->dash. Please check thread if it helps: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/pgf77-says-i-need-to-run-makelocalrc/130857/1

Now I am runing under Mandriva 2008, and i had this proiblem:

pgf90-Error-Please run makelocalrc to complete your installation
and when i try your solution here it said:

/opt/pgi/linux86/7.1-2/bin/makelocalrc: line 121: strings: command not found
ERROR: unknown glibc version ().

Hi Nordine,

Unfortunately we don’t have Mandriva to test here. You can try remove “strings” command and see if it gives you correct glibc version. That line just looks for the glibc version on your system.

hi Hongyong;

It’s not working yet:
I got this: /opt/pgi/linux86/7.1-2/bin/pgf90 -Mextend -O2 -c -o mod_common.o mod_common.f
pgf90-Error-Please run makelocalrc to complete your installation
make: *** [mod_common.o] Error 1

Hi Nordine,

After updating makelocalrc, you will need to run it:

There are 2 makelocalrc’s, make sure you update both of them.

Here are example commands you can use:

%cd /opt/pgi/linux86/7.1-2/bin
%makelocalrc -x /opt/pgi/linux86/7.l1-2
%cd /opt/pgi/linux86-64/7.1-2/bin
%makelocalrc -x /opt/pgi/linux86-64/7.1-2

Dear Hongyon,

I did this step: I am runing under a bit 32 only so just one of those is permit;
and in the final it’s still not working, glibc version still not found, ( I use Mandriva 2008).

Hi Nordine,

You might want to try change /bin/sh to /bin/bash and make symlink from /bin/bash to /bin/dash as mentioned in:
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/error-linker-not-found-ubuntu-linux-server-7/130804/1
