install PGF 7.1.6

HI,
My OS is Fedora 9 x86_64.
When I installing the program, it appeared the error message of glibc.
Is it fine to continue the process?

Installing software into /opt/pgi (this may take some time).

Unknown glibc version (2.8); treating like 2.4

Making symbolic links in /opt/pgi/linux86/7.1

Hi choingju,

In this case, your installation should be fine. The issue here is that Fedora 9 was released after PGI 7.1 so the installation script doesn’t recognize it and defaults the last known version.

I installed the program as the following commands.

PATH=/opt/pgi/linux86/7.1/bin:$PATH
export PATH
MANPATH=$MANPATH:/opt/pgi/linux86/7.1/man
export MANPATH
touch x.f

pgf77 -V -c x.f
pgf90 -V -c x.f
pghpf -V -c x.f
pgCC -V -c x.c
pgcc -V -c x.c

PGI=/opt/pgi; export PGI
MANPATH=$MANPATH:$PGI/linux86/7.1/man
export MANPATH
LM_LICENSE_FILE=$PGI/license.dat
export LM_LICENSE_FILE
PATH=$PGI/linux86/7.1/bin:$PATH
export PATH

and the echo lines is below,

Is it complete?

Thank you.

Hi choingju,

Your PATH is set correctly but you need to move the LM_LICENSE_FILE setting before invoking the compilers. Also, I’m guessing that you ran this script in the a directory that you don’t have write permissions since the file “x.f” was not created. The compiler should give you a warning that “x.f” is empty instead of it not being found. You should create an ‘x.c’ file as well.
