Problem with Module mlx5_ib

Hello,

I’m trying to install the drivers in an EPYC2 system running on Ubuntu 18.04 with a 200 Gb HDR Mellanox ConnectX-6. The installation works fine but when I try to restart the server, I’m getting the ‘ERROR: Module mlx5_ib is in use’

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be welcomed.

Hi Sophie,

It’s still not working. When I try those commands, the system simply states:

Failed to stop ibacm.socket: Unit ibacm.socket not loaded.

Hi Arturo,

know issue per our driver RN:

Description: ib_core unload may fail on Ubuntu 18.04.2 OS with the following error message:

“Module ib_core is in use”

Stop ibacm.socket using the following commands:

systemctl stop ibacm.socket

systemctl disable ibacm.socket

Can you reboot the system and validate if the issue reproduced?

If yes, I would suggest to open a support case via supportadmin@mellanox.com for further analysis.

Sophie,

This is a cloud box so the system reboots every time I stop and start it. Maybe this is not accurate but I suspect that support would probably need to be requested by the cloud vendor (Azure) as I’m technically not a Mellanox customer or owner, more like an end-user. I’ve begun another installation using CentOS7 (that is less preferable for totally unrelated matters) so let me compare both installations before proceeding further.

Hi Sophie,

I had no issues with the installation on CentOS7 and will move on with it. Lack of time prevents me from troubleshooting the Ubuntu installation but will try it again when time permits me.
