RTX 6000 Ada and 4090 in same machine

I have a Z790 PC with two 4090 cards in it. I’m trying to replace one of the 4090’s with an RTX 6000 Ada card. The machine does not POST with the both the 6000 Ada and the 4090 installed no matter what combinations I try. Does the 6000 requires the full x16?

Hi there @ed146 and welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums.

Does the machine POST with only the RTX 6000 installed? It should work with x8 or even x4, so you should be able to set that in your BIOS even with only this GPU installed.

Does your board show any POST messages?
I assume BIOS is up to date?

Power should not be an issue since you have been running 2 4090s already…

Quick follow-up. PCIe x8 should be fine with the RTX 6000, x4 not officially.

And also officially we do not support GeForce and RTX Workstation GPUs in the same system. It should still boot though, so the issue you are seeing, if the RTX 6000 is ok, could be related Resizable BAR conflicts with respect to BIOS features. The RTX 6000 also supports PCIe PowerBrake, whereas the 4090 does not.

Thanks for the feedback. The problem was being reported by the motherboard status as a “PCI resource allocation error. Out of Resources”. It just looks like the BIOS on this motherboard doesn’t like this configuration so we’re going to use the 6000 in a separate system which will only have that card in it.

Ok, at least you get to use the RTX 6000.

The “resource allocation” issue sounds exactly like what was explained to me with respect to possible ReBAR allocation conflicts when mixing these two types of GPUs.

Bets of success with your projects!
