I recently migrated to a J4012 from an Intel NUC. I had an experience where I think booting the J4012 while an nucleo-h723ZG stm32h7 was connected via USB damaged the board. The J4012 is powered by a Pololu 12V, 15A regulator, and the STM32 board is connected to the J4012 via USB.
Can you tell me if there is a risk of connecting a microcontroller to the J4012 while it is booting up? This is an essential use case since the robot’s STM32 and Jetson need to communicate over USB from startup.

It looks like you are referring to a Seeed Studio reComputer J4012. You should also contact Seeed Studio support because NVIDIA engineering does not have access to their custom carrier board design.
Generally speaking:
I suppose the nucleo-h723ZG stm32h7 was plugged into one of the USB Type A ports. Since that configuration makes the MCU a USB device to the Jetson, there should not be a way for it to damage the Jetson carrier in a normal situation. Is there a chance there was a short between power and ground somewhere on the nucleo-h723ZG stm32h7 or the Jetson system?
