USD Composer stops responding while Movie Capturing

While rendering the sequence USD Composer window stops responding and what it seems - every time it finishes rendering a frame. I have a feeling that this is somehow correlated with with GPU driver hanging for too long,
I am on RTX 3090.

not sure if it’s scene, software, or hardware specific. have you tried it with other Composer versions? a low chance it it might be related to I/O when saving frames; have you tested saving directly to local drives as opposed to nucleus directly? the rendering normally would use up resources, so some level of ‘hanging’ should be expected and more so as you increase your render setting from a preview to final quality; i wonder if you could clarify what your expectation is?

Your render settings are very strange. This may be related. Why are you attempted to run 168 frames before start ? You are literally asking it to run through 168 frames of processing before rendering anything. That could cause the program to hang. I am assuming you are attempting to render a total of 486 frames, and you have already done 168 frames in another rendering session and you are resuming rendering. In that case simply set the rendering “Start” to 169 and disable the “run 168 before start”. You are also rendering to a networked machine. Is there a reason for that ? You would be far better off always rendering to a local “render” or “temp” folder on disk, and then transferring those pngs to a networked location afterwards.

Hi @Richard3D , thank you for your answer. I am pre-rendering 168 frames before start to build up the fire animation and get it ready for the shot. The sequence is saved on shared drive for the immediate access for my team. I will save it locally and see if it changes anything.

I hope the developers at Nvidia are working on making this better, because that’s an unnecessary extra step I wouldn’t want to put my coworkers through if they will start using this app.
