WSL conflicts with Nsight Compute

I recently installed the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). Later when I run Nsight Compute, trying to run a capture resulted in a message:

A port in the range of 50152 - 50161 could not be acquired …

It took me a while to understand that the problem might be WSL, but when I disabled it Nsight Compute came back to life.

Please note：

  • Profiling on Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is only supported with WSL version 2.
  • Profiling is supported on Windows 10 WSL with OS build version 19044 and greater, and NVIDIA display driver version 545 or higher. It is not supported on Windows 10 WSL for systems that exceed 1 TB of system memory.
  • Profiling is supported on Windows 11 WSL with NVIDIA display driver version 525 or higher.

Please check if your env meet the requirement.
Also please try with Nsight Compute 2023.3 or newer.
If you still have concern, please tell me your Nsight compute version and os/driver version. Thanks !

I’m not profiling on WSL. I’m profiling on native Windows. WSL is installed in the system. This prevents from profiling on native Windows. I’m using Nsight Compute 2024.3.2 on Windows 10.

How you connect ncu on Windows to wsl2? I only find ssh connection method and it seemd can’t connect to wsl2

You can get the IP of WSL2（enable SSH service and then execute $ifconfig ）
Then treat WSL2 as a remote Linux target.
