X server crashes when Xfce DE boots in Fedora 19_64bit on NVidia Corporation NV43 [Quadro NVS 440] (

Trying to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-319.32run on NVidia Corporation NV43 [Quadro NVS 440] (rev a2) card with Fedora 19 for 64 bit operating system with Xfce DE. The computer will boot and the Xserver will crash every time and not allow me to change to a non-graphical interface (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F(n) ).

Am I using the correct drivers or should I be using a different one?
Should nouveau be uninstalled prior to trying to install this driver or should I get a newer card?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

V/R,

Rubeng

bump, does anyone use this card any longer?

So the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-319.32.run is the incorrect driver, for the Quadro NV43 NVS 440 rev a2 card. When trying to install it from the command line it informed me that I needed the 304.xx driver instead. The website download tool is incorrect in offering me the wrong driver. Just wanted to make that known.

Will try and download the correct driver version.

The Web site for downloading the drivers continues to point me to the NVidia-Linux-x86_64-319.32.run file, is this the correct one or the incorrect one?

Will try the 304.xx driver as this one did not work.

Ty, please update your site.

The 304.xx driver supports the GPU: Quadro NVS 440 0x014A

Thank you, does it support the rev a2?

Do you have a link to a good install procedure, as I have tried to follow the link for the instructions, on the nVidia web site but it fails with the black screen and I have to rebuild every time I get that, as I am not able to recover from that failure. Thank you and have a great day!

  • create file :
    /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-installer-disable-nouveau.conf

generated by nvidia-installer

blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0

Excellent, I will do that today and get back with you.

Thank you and have a great day!
