>=334.21 Redrawing problems in Gnome 3.10/3.12 - GTX 580

I’ve talked to customer support. They were surprisingly responsive and forthcoming, I’ve pointed them to this thread, but unfortunately they’ve refused to comment here.

This was the last response I got:

Yes, the bugs are assigned to devs. Our target is to fix them for the January 2015 346* driver release but this may change as priorities change.

This is good news :) At least they’ve filed the bug in their tracker and someone has looked at it. It’s hard to say how seriously they take the bug. Perhaps you other guys having this issue should contact customer support as well. Let them know how serious this problem is to you, and that how it’s handled may affect their sales.

Thanks for your help, bobbaluba. Why the hell can’t they use the devtalk website to have developers talk?

And this may change as priorities change? So completely effing up the desktop isn’t a priority but some stupid gimmicks that make the windows drivers are? It’s been so long now with no communication past the occasional email from support.

Man, screw this company. I’m through with Nvidia. You guys have always been thugs hiding behind an excellent graphics driver, but this really has taken the cake for me.

I tried to contact them too but had no reply, perhaps I didn’t ask at the right place… I must admit that it’s a bit confusing overall.

On another hand, having January 2015 as a target for a bug that appeared on February 2014 is not really serious either… I hope that Steam Machines will change their priorities because I’m really looking forward AMD’s next move now, something that wasn’t remotely possible for me on December 2013, when I bought a GeForce GTX 660.

Thanks for sharing this with us, I hope that in the future, communication will be easier.

Sorry for double posting, but wow, I just realised that nVidia seriously lacks on its forum moderation. Indeed, in an attempt to attract some attention to this thread, I reported my own comment in this thread, just before comment #26 from our fellow harkenthesacredcow.

I reported my comment, stating that nVidia needed to answer us as soon as possible. They plainly DELETED my comment, allegedly without even reading it, evidenced by the fact that there was nothing harmful in it despite my reporting it.

So either they really don’t care about this part of the internet, or they need more people to answer our needs.

Posts that are “reported” are automatically flagged to not be displayed. That’s how spam and obscene posts can be immediately taken off. Do you people really think that developers have time to read posts and respond to them? They take the bug reports and post quick answers if they have them and that’s that. NVIDIA is not going to pay people who know how to code video drivers to babysit forums or provide daily status updates.

If you submitted your bug then that’s all you need to do. The idea that your bug is going to get popped to the top of the queue just because you submitted it is quite funny. They’re going to fry the biggest fish first.

same problem in fedora 20 with nvidia 340.58 @ GTX 760

Not the same problem. Old bug in clutter.

Of course not. But considering that nVidia’s support page points directly to these forums when it comes to Linux support, one would expect somebody’s in charge here (a moderator or a community manager, or whatever…). Also, as there obviously is a quick answer, why not putting it there?

When we buy an nVidia product, aren’t we entitled for at least some support? If they don’t want to bother with us, well, they should just pick the open source solution instead of getting in the way (as they are widely known for, hence the Linus Torvalds meme posted above). Also if you consider customer support as babysitting, then I wouldn’t want to buy anything from your company (if you ever had one).

Finally, I do know that my attempt was kind of foolish, but do you think I am so dumb as to believe I will have a video driver developer replying to my requests? Do you think developers should take care of marketing, too?

What you’re saying is obvious, but what is equally obvious is that an 8 months old bug should have disappeared from this very same bug tracker a long time ago, even if its not considered “top priority.” Even so, if totally messing up desktop experience isn’t top priority, then I don’t know what could possibly make it to the top in terms of non-critical bugs. If performance-adaptive Optimus was officially supported, things wouldn’t be so bad (desktop would be handled by Intel’s open source driver), but surprisingly enough, it isn’t.

Actually, they used to have someone peruse the forums at the old site. AaronP would have noticed this within the week and commented on it. So yes, I do expect them to have people read and reply.

Ok I told earlier that I tried to contact the standard nVidia support before and they replied to me today. They told me that the bug was classified “high priority” and that it was being dealt with at the moment. I’m quite reassured.

The problem is that nVidia’s support page is not up to date, so don’t post on this forum if you want some results, just use the standard support.

you’ve been great, omer666. you’re as talented as you are gorgeous.

We are working on priority for this issue. There are some related bugs also that need to be fixed. We will keep your posted. Internally we are tracking this issue : 1485912

On top of occasionally getting the graphic update problem when renaming folders for example, I’m now getting a much worse bug. Clicking on background windows does not cause them to raise, unless clicking their title bar. This is incredibly annoying as I’ll click on a background window, start typing, then realise I haven’t switched windows. I think it’s similar in nature to the other bugs here, and it’s certainly due to using Gnome+Nvidia.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Did you try setting PowerMizer to Maximum Performance?
If the bug is still there with this setting, then I’d suspect it’s not the same bug as ours.
Personally I don’t have this problem on my system…

Setting to maximum performance hasn’t changed anything.

I’ll keep looking, but I haven’t found anyone else with this bug either, it might just be me.

EDIT: I deleted all of my config (for the second time, but I was more thorough this time) and it has solved the problem. No idea what had happened.

Hello, happy new year everyone.

So nvidia proprietary drivers v.346.36 stable are now out!
Let’s hope the bug has been fixed and GNOME devs can now compile their patched version of mutter…

So, any news on this?
Let me remind you that on the 3rd of next month we’ll be celebrating this horrible bug’s first birthday…

@sandipt, what is the status of issue 1485912?

“Fixed a bug that could cause glXSwapBuffer() to block for longer than necessary in multi-threaded GLX applications using the GLX_NV_delay_before_swap extension.”

Is this related to this bug?
