4k camera

Hey,

I would like to know if the nano is able to support a 4k camera at 30 FPS. Either with the dev kit or the SOM/carrier board.

For now I see camera that are only 2 lanes and doesn’t seem to able to have 4k/30 FPS.

Hi vbellet, the production module supports up to 12 lanes of MIPI CSI-2, where you can connect up to three x4 cameras or up to 4 cameras in x4/x2 lane configurations, so the module is capable of streaming multiple 4K cameras simultaneously.

The camera connector on the devkit uses 2 lanes as you mentioned, so I’m not sure if there are 4K camera modules out there that work with x2.

common generic raspberry pi v2 csi board default camera provides 4K @21 fps

thanks for the info.

do you think that a carrier board will be compatible with the CSI default camera connector and so be able to obtain 30 FPS ?

In my opinion, it depends on what camera you will use.

any camera board that would enable me to have 4k/30FPS while being not too expensive. Leopard image or raspberry pi camera would do for me.

The camera would need to have the 15-position flexcable (like the Raspberry Pi Camera Module v2 uses) to be natively compatible with the camera connector on the Nano devkit.

default camera doesn’t exceed 21 fps for 4k

Interval: Discrete 0.036s (28.000 fps)

wait what?!

it’s almost 4k. Those are theoretical numbers … did you try and effectively got 28FPS?

with something like this :

Is there any camera module that I can buy which utilizes 4 csi data lanes? I can see that the jetson nano module has 12 csi lanes from the documentation, but only 2 of them are exposed on the development breakout board, and the only product that seams accessible to use at this time is IMX219 camera modules, like the raspberry pi camera module v2.1 which uses only 2 data lanes.

I would love to see a camera component which utilizes 4 csi data lanes to support a 4k camera module with 30+ fps

First, you need a NANO carrier board which support 4 lanes MIPI interface. You can find Aetina, as far as I know, they are doing the new carrier board for NANO. Here is their sale’s contact info.

The second part, we have several 4K(8M)-15fps/30fps/60fps camera solutions for Jetson. Once the 4 lanes carrier board is confirmed. You can use on it. Here is the link for your reference.
