Ever since updating to the latest 530.41.03 I have been flickering issues. My setup is an Asus G14 laptop running a GTX 1650 Ti mobile connected to an external monitor supporting 3440x1440 @ 100Hz via usb-c to displayport. The issue seems to occur only when going above 60Hz. I can’t replicate the issue on my windows installation using exactly the same configuration (dual boot) so it’s not definitely not a hardware issue.
My OS is Linux Mint 21.1 MATE. It seems to occur randomly a few times per minute. I have tried different settings at Nvidia control panel without any improvement. My current drivers are 530.41.03-0ubuntu0.22.04.2. Older drivers did not have this issue.
These are my logs:
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (408.1 KB)
Below I have a video showcasing the issue:

Can anyone guess what is causing this?
After trying the 535.43.02-0buntu0~gpu22.04.02 drivers I can report that the issue persists.
Yes, I have the same issue, but only starting from 535 (possibly due to using nvidia-drm.modeset=1
as a boot parameter?).
There’s another recent thread with other reports: Flickering at the top of the screen. It feels like the same issue, but your video is closer to what I’m seeing on my system.
I think this was the original thread: Very short black flickering (flashes) with nvidia 2080Ti since nvidia 530.41.03 driver.
It’s very sad that even though this issue have been going on for a while there haven’t been any official responses as to when it’s going to be fixed.
I am also experiencing a steady rate of intermittent flickering once every 15-30 seconds.
Nvidia Driver Version: 535.54.03
GPU: GeForce GTX 1650
Screen Resolution: 2560x1440 @ 144Hz refresh rate
OS: Arch Linux Kernel 6.1.37-1-lts
Desktop: Gnome 44.2 & GDM 44.1 with X11 (X Server Windowing System)
This wasn’t an issue prior to upgrading to 535.54.03. Hope they provide a fix soon.
Hi All,
I have seen flickering of entire screen on my setup locally and we are actively debugging the issue.
Bug 4164132 has been also raised for the same.

If you look here a lot of people are experiencing this but there hasn’t been any official responses as to when it’s going to be fixed.

Hello guys, i was one of the guys who created a Topic about this Black Flickering few month ago and even with the workaround with nvidia_drm.modeset=1
that could solve the issue for a while… the bug comes back with 535.54.03… atleast its not this annoying as few month ago but it still a pain to see it again :(
I also removed today nvidia_drm.modeset=1 from grub but no changes.

There is a response from amrits (Moderator), so let’s wait for a fix in new versions.
Just wanted to give a quick update after upgrading to the newly released 535.86.05 drivers. The issue still persists on my GTX 1650 GPU. Albeit the frequency of the flicker has reduced.
Nvidia Driver: 535.86.05
GPU: GeForce GTX 1650
OS: Arch Linux
Kernel: 6.1.38-2-lts
GNOME Shell: 44.3
Windowing System: X11
Screen Resolution: 2560x1440 @ 144Hz
Edit: Spoke too soon. Now I see long flickers with the screen blacking out for nearly 3 seconds.
Same same i.e. update fixed nothing.
I can report that 535.86.05 did not fix the issue for me nor did it affect it’s frequency despite setting maximum performance in the nvidia settings.
Three months later and this is still not fixed. I will strongly think about whether I should buy an nvidia GPU in the future.
