It’s an Optimus notebook, please

 • delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf
 • Don’t use the .run installers, use --uninstall to uninstall them
 • add the ubuntu graphics ppa https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
 • install the driver from that (sudo apt install nvidia-driver-430)
 • install nvidia-prime (sudo apt install nvidia-prime)
 • switch to nvidia (sudo prime-select nvidia)
 • reboot.

Hello Generix,
Thx for your answer. I will try.

Oooh !!! It’s works !!!

Thx you very much Generix !!!

Now, I need to install CUDA.

Best,
Numael

Important!
To not break your driver on cuda install, please follow this:

 • download cuda .deb package
 • add the repo to your system (first three steps from install instructions on download page)
 • don’t install cuda
 • instead, run sudo apt install cuda-toolkit-10-1

Generix,

Unfortunately, I saw your message too late. I did a:

sudo apt install cuda-10-1

The install me version 418. The screen works.

I allready install libcudnn7 and tensorflow-gpu:

$ sudo apt-get install libcudnn7
$ sudo pip3 install tensorflow-gpu

But, GPU is detected because this python3 script:

from tensorflow.python.client import device_lib

print(device_lib.list_local_devices())

return:

So, do you think my mistake can be problematic?
I will try to make inference with the GPU …

Thank you very much for your help.
It is a pleasure to see that there are people who give their time to help !

Best,
Numael

For now this is working fine but in the long run you might run into problems with the cuda bundled driver, e.g. on Ubuntu HWE stack upgrades.
Though I suspect the driver will still update from ppa.

Thank you again for your help :-)

Uch. Indeed, this is a problem. When I open chrome or Firefox that freeze the system.
I will redo the clean installation.
