How do I fix "Oh no something has gone wrong" screen problem after installing NVIDIA driver ?

I am using IBM’s AC922 (POWER9 chips) with V100 Tesla GPUs. This server has an integrated VGA port, which I use as the console port. It works fine with Redhat 7.4, probably with nouveau driver.

But as soon as I install CUDA on this server and reboot, the console screen shows big sad face with “Oh no something has gone wrong” message. I believe this is because NVIDIA driver automatically puts nouveau into the blacklist, and the AOC VGA port doesn’t work with NVIDIA driver. Now I can use only text screen with this VGA port.

How can I fix this problem ? I’d really like to have my GUI screen back.

Solved !

  1. Delete the two files shown below.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-avoid-glamor.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-nvidia.conf

  1. Reboot

Now the VGA port works again just fine, and no trouble in using nvidia-smi.
