Boot Nvidia Jetson Nano developer kit – 16GB emmc from SD Card

Good day,

I am new to the Linux and Nvidia Jetson community. I bought an Nvidia Jetson Nano developer kit – 16GB emmc which came pre-installed with the Ubuntu operating system. I would, however, like to boot from my SD card.

I have everything prepared on the SD card side. I would like to know how I can change the boot order to boot from the SD card. From what I have gathered, there is no bios and I think it’s using C-Boot bootloader, but I have no idea how to configure it to boot from my SD card.

Could someone please assist me in providing the required steps?

Thank you in advance.

Hello @maricobencemb ,
Someone already tried, here, basically you have to connect to uart console, using the uart headers, as shown here, and interupt the boot process typing anything on the console when the boot msj shows up. Then change the boot variable as you need, like in here. And that should do it.

Hi @andres.artavia

Thank you for your timely response. I will try it out.

I am appreciative of your help. Wish me luck.

Hi @andres.artavia

I hope you are doing well.

I am waiting for my order to arrive for the USB to TTL serial cable. I have done some further research on this topic and wanted to ask your advice.

I came across the nv_boot_control.conf file.

And I saw this post about it: About /etc/nv_boot_control.conf

Before I make changes and possibly stop my Jetson from booting up… Do you think there is something in this file that I can change to allow it to boot up from the SD card?

Kind regards,
Marico

It looks like there are some vendors out there providing a misleading naming as “devkit”.

I already explained in similar posts. Please refer to this.

Hi @WayneWWW

Thank you for your reply.

It’s unfortunate that the naming is a bit misleading… especially for someone like me who is new…

Wouldn’t it be easier if I get the proper board?

Could I please ask you to check if this is the correct board?

I hope you will be able to see something that can indicate it on these images. The board actually has the Nvidia logo at the bottom, which mine doesn’t and it comes in the original green and brown box, instead of my white and blue box.

Thank you for your efforts.

Hi,

Is the sdcard slot on the carrier board or on the module? Or you don’t know what does module and carrier board mean here?

Sorry, I don’t get what you said here, so does your board have a nvidia logo or not?

NVIDIA devkit won’t have a sdcard slot on the carrier board. Even if you get one, there won’t be any sdcard to use.

Hi @WayneWWW

Thank you for your timely response.

No, my carrier board doesn’t have an Nvidia logo on the bottom.

My SD card reader is on the carrier board and not on the module board.

I want to order this board now. https://www.robotics.org.za/W16744?search=nvidia%20jetson

I hope this board is the correct one. I just can’t see if the SD card reader is on the carrier or module board.

Kind regards,
Marico Bence

The device in your link is probably a sdcard module from the beginning. Which means it does not have emmc.

Perfect! I hope this will my life a lot easier.

Thank you for your help Wayne, I appreciate it.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Kind regards,
Marico Bence
