Can't use USB2 Pins on M.2 connector for Tx2 4GB dev kit

Hi,

I’m trying to use a Wifi/Bluetooth module through the M.2 connector on a dev kit board that we replaced the TX2 module with a TX2 4GB module running on L4T32.2. The BT uses USB for the HCI interface, and the wifi through PCIe. The Wifi portion works, but I’ve not had any success with using the BT. I’ve checked the following two forum posts:

The device tree file that is used by my board is tegra186-quill-p3489-0888-a00-00-base.dtb and I’ve tried mimic-ing the changes mentioned in those two links onto the p3489 dtb and dtsi.

Any help is appreciated.

If this is devkit, you could just change the ODMDATA to config #1 and then it should work.

The ODMDATA has been changed to config #1, that’s why the wifi is working, since that communicates over PCIe. The problem that i’m facing is that the bluetooth HCI interface is not coming up, which looks to be a USB issues related to the USB2_D+ and USB2_D- module pins.

Looking at the 2 forums I’ve linked in post #1, it looks like other people have something similar, although their solutions have not worked for me.

Yes, what I said in #2 is also for usb2 on m.2 slot on devkit.
You don’t need to change the dts because plugin-manager would help handle.

Please use the pure jetpack and change odmdata to config#1. If still no help, please share your boot log (bootloader log) with us.

Also, you could dump the runtime device tree by reading the node /proc/device-tree.

I’ve used a fresh L4T32.2 with the sample rootfs.

I changed odmdata to config #1 by modifying p2771-0000.conf.common and changed ODMDATA to 0x90000 for {bid} == 3489. This is the same steps I’ve done previously to get PCIe running for the M.2 connector.

What should I look for in proc/device-tree to verify that the USB bus is setup correctly at the device tree level?

An examination of my device-tree shows the following for xusb_pad_ctl:

Sorry that what I need is the bootloader log. Do you have uart console to dump the log?

Found the root cause. Will share the solution later.

For context, can I get the expected output of the device tree data? It’s useful for me to understand what to look for to help pinpoint any issues with device tree moving forward. I.e. what do i look for to verify that the device tree is set up correctly for USB and it’s not a problem at another layer?

Below is the patch you need. Please note that your change in #1 is totally correct.
However, there is a mechanism called plugin-manager which would override the device tree according to different ODMDATA during jetson boot up time.

That is why I told you the only thing you need to do is change the ODMDATA but no need to change the device tree because plugin-manager would help.

However, rel-32.2 plugin-manager dts is not correct and cause your problem.

I have the same problem with jeffrey. I modify my device-tree and it can work well when use tx2-8GB. Reference the topic what I create https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/usb-still-cannot-work-after-modify-device-tree/115408.
Now I want to use tx2-4GB modules. I modify the device-tree tegra186-quill-p3489-0888-a00-00-base.dts and part of USB port work well except USB in M.2.
I try to modify ODMDATA and plugin-manager but it doesn’t work. So could you give me some help ?

A fast way is check the runtime device tree. Please check the device tree under /proc/device-tree and find the usb node for M.2. Check if the status is set to enabled.
