CUDA on a 7900

Sorry if this is posted somewhere already but I couldn’t find it.

I have a 7900GTX and need to install CUDA for a class. I know there’s an emulator but I was wondering if I need to install the CUDA driver first or if the emulator will work without the driver.

This thread seems to suggest that you only need the toolkit to run in emulation mode.
