I seem to have a different problem to most.

Installation attempts to check for an “existing AI workbench distro” and then fails. According to the main.log (13.2 KB) it would appear there is a problem accessing ubuntu-jammy-wsl-amd64-wsl.rootfs.tar.gz.

I have manually downloaded the ubuntu file and placed it into the Temp folder before attempting another installation. The installation reaches the same conclusion but removes the file from the Temp folder.

Note that my Internet connection is stable with no issues, disabling the OS firewalls does not resolve the issue.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

What is your Windows OS and release number?

Windows 11 Professional
Release: 24h2 | 26100.3476

There has been some development on the basis on trial and error as follows:

I created a .wslconfig file in %userprofile% and within this file included the following:
[wsl2]
networkingMode=mirrored

(I am not sure whether this has made any notable difference or not)

I bridged my WIFI to the virtual ethernet adapter.

I edited the bridge interface to confirm the WIFI adapter and TCP/IP 4 were checked.

This seems to have enabled an intermittent connection that consistently fails and resumes but slowly progresses the ‘Downloading WSL2 distro’ download via the AI Workbench app. but has also resulted in Internet access on the OS to be very poor.

Here is a recent main.log (22.8 KB) that shows the looping ‘Download’ → ‘Retry’ → ‘Resume’.

Additional Notes:

  1. If TCP/IP 6 is enabled on the bridge all 5 attempts fail and no file download resuming.

This setup is not workable as the intermitted download is very, very slow but progressing. Perhaps this additional information may help provide some further insight into the issue.

A final update on this.

I removed the bridge and instead connected my system to my mobile hotspot, and this immediately resolved the issue. The check for an “existing AI workbench distro” passed and downloaded, following this, I reconnected my system to the WIFI and the remainder of the packages downloaded and installed flawlessly.

Note:
Following the success of this and the Docker Desktop installation/account setup. I was also able to successfully install and load ChatRTX which, until now, has always failed.

@rhysl.wc - you get an A+ for ingenuity and effort.

The word “flawless” about the UX is quite generous though…

I will surface this to the eng team.
