Green screen in *one eye only*? (Not RDP!)

Hi folks,
We’re currently testing out CloudXR connectivity over several bespoke use cases and have run into issues with one specific server - running on Windows Server 2019 Standard - that only sends the frame on the left eye, whereas the right eye is the notorious green screen.

We’re well aware of the various ways green screen can be induced (as well as the corresponding section in the FAQ) but this seems anomalous. Have you ever encountered green screen on one eye, and might you have any intuition around the cause?

This is a bespoke (modified) CloudXR client, but one that runs normally when connecting to other machines, leading to the suspicion this is an OS-dependent issue. Any ideas will be very helpful!

here’s a typical (broken experience) server log. Note the repeating Format ID 101 isn't supported by encoder - I don’t know if it’s relevant, but haven’t seen it on successful connections to other servers. To restate the problem, all green screen, no RDP / other streaming or recording software that I know of.

@wcannady should loop in with you, we may need some server info dump to try and see what’s up. I don’t know if it’s OS, hardware config, driver config. Yes, clearly something in there is very confused. I’m shocked you are getting one eye – only thing that says to me is maybe the NVENC driver is deciding the board can only do single encode (which I don’t think we support, we want multiple encodes in parallel). Again, that could be driver, board misidentification, or something else about the particular server config since you say it’s this one in particular. I’ll let you guys take it offline, see if we can gather enough information from you so the right engineers have enough to evaluate and determine the core issue (or at least get us in the ballpark…).

We’d want to see a full server log to better understand what is happening. Are these bare-metal machines, or cloud, or local but hypervisor managed?

If you attach a server log and quickly define machine setup, we can take a quick look.

My CXR server is installed in a virtual machine on a local server, and use TESLA T4-1Q vGPU, below is the full log

It’s most certainly related to the VM setup. There are two possibilities. One is there is a driver bug where certain boards in a virtual configuration are misdetected, and the driver cannot determine its capabilities. That doesn’t look to be the issue here, as that generally shows as h264 available and HEVC not.

The second possibility is that, as best I understand it, there are licenses needed for running enterprise-class boards in virtual environments. It’s possible that if it doesn’t have the proper license, the virtual gpu is reporting (properly) no available encode features.

@wcannady Can you chime in here, since this certainly looks and sounds to be related to virtual (but local) machine GPU pass-through?

What I see in the log that’s concerning is:

These should never be 0.

I know this happens with the vGPU bug when it’s unable to launch NvEnc. I’m not 100% certain if this also happens with an unregistered vGPU license. Can you run powershell on your VMs and verify the license with NVDIIA SMI? If they show up as Licensed, it’s likely a vGPU bug that conflicts with CloudXR 3.2 and vGPU versions between 14 and 15. A workaround for this is setting passthrough on the hypervisor or downgrading to CloudXR 3.0 for the time being.

I can’t get cloudXR 3.0 because I found that nvidia doesn’t provide a Versions prior to 3.2,how do i get cloudXR 3.0.
Also, there is a question about authorization, I confirmed through a powershell query that I have permission for virtual workstation.

I also tried testing with an unlicensed vgpu and found that the error is exactly the same.
