GRID on K1 cards & ESXi 6.7

I’m looking into upgrading our environment (R730 with K1 cluster) to ESXi 6.7 and cannot find a GRID K1 driver for ESXi 6.7, only for 6.0 and 6.5. Can anyone comment on when the driver for 6.7 will be released, as the upgrade will be scheduled for late august.

I’ll try and reach out to a contact within Nvidia to confirm this. This would be a real pain, as the K1 was still available from partners 2 years ago and now we wouldn’t be able to use it on the latest hypervisor. I wouldn’t mind not having all the features of the Pxx or Mxx GPU’s (GRID 5.X/6.X), but I would mind being stuck on ESXi 6.5 for along time to come.

Hi Pieter,

it is correct that there won’t be any support for K1/K2 and new hypervisor versions. GRID 4.x branch will only provide hotfixes and no new features or product support.

Just to confirm, the K1 card will never have an update to make it compatible with ESXi 6.7? We do not use any of the vGPU or other advanced features. We use only standard sVGA. I tried using the 6.5 driver with 6.7 hosts, but it was not utilizing GPU (even though nvidia-smi said it was). Can sVGA not be supported on 6.7 with the K1 card?

Correct: NVIDIA GRID™ Software Supported Products
K1/K2 is EOL for almost 2 years. Also the hypervisor vendors wouldn’t invest to support EOL hardware on new software stacks like 6.7
