Hardware board-design PCIe x8 (C5) design Question

The UPHY1 Mapping in the AGX orin design guide is indicated as follows.

Is it possible to connect an x4 PICe switch chip to an x8 PICe (C5) and use 4 PCIe Lanes (x1, x1, x1, x1) by mapping them as shown in Case-1) below?
Or should I use a PCIe switch that provides x8 like Case-2) below?

I don’t get what you mean of “4 PCIe Lanes (x1, x1, x1, x1)”.
C5 can support PCIe x4 device. If need to connect 2 PCIe x4 devices to C5 port, a switch is necessary.

I need only 4 PCIe Lanes (4 (x1) lanes) from C5
but C5 has x8 pcie.
My question is for this 4 x1 lane design, should I interface a C5 port with a PCIe switch 8-port switch or a 4-port PCIe switch?

4-port switch is ok.

If only one device, you can connect device to C5 directly, switch is unnecessary.

Thank you very much Trumany,

OK. I will use one 4-port 4-Lane switch by connecting C5 of AGX orin.
