Help me

I want to incorporate 3D assets provided by Omniverse into my CG production using Houdini and Blender.
I have successfully downloaded Blender 4.2 Alpha, but to manage USD assets, it seemed better to use the Omniverse Nucleus server for asset management, so I decided to set that up. However, I have hit a dead end.
While I was able to start the server, I do not know how to proceed from the screen shown in the attached image.
If there was a launcher available, it would probably have been easy for a beginner like me, but I cannot find anywhere to download it, so I had to set up the server directly. Honestly, I have no idea what I am doing.
I am trying to figure it out step-by-step with ChatGPT’s help, but I am starting to feel overwhelmed.

@cyoko.1470 welcome to the forum! i am just another OV user and always glad to see new users diving in.

to start, there have been suggestions that Nucleus isn’t strictly necessary to do any work but for a specific livesync workflow or at the enterprise level with larger teams. so if you could clarify your intention mentioned at the top of your original post, is the goal to bring OV assets into either Houdini or Blender? being able to identify your exact needs could help the mods/devs/community tailor their answers to what you need.

also, OV launcher is getting deprecated in October, so it’s strongly encouraged for you to build a kit-app-template now instead and not having to worry about things breaking later on. NVIDIA has helped create a playlist to get your started -

feel free to ask any follow up questions, i am sure the mods are more than happy to assist and point you in the right direction!

Thanks! I was able to import OV assets on my own, but when I tried to bring in USD assets, I wanted to preview them first so I could understand what each asset was before adding it to my project. I couldn’t figure out how to do that, so I thought maybe Nucleus was the solution and gave it a try—but it turns out it serves a different purpose! Since posting yesterday, I’ve installed the Kit SDK and am now exploring Kit. I’ll check out the playlist—thanks! <3

Also, I have a question: when importing OV assets in Blender, is there a way to batch-import multiple files at once?

@cyoko.1470 i will have to preface this by saying i am not a Blender power user; have only dabbled in it. that said, perhaps you can see if there are any importer add-ons that you can grab that allows you to import in bulk. doing a quick google search, there’s one (according to that table in the add-on description, it should support USDs) that might be along the line of what to look for:

also, feel free to ask the Blender community in case there are developers or users out there that is developing/have developed something you can leverage.

I am not sure I understand your workflow. You are trying to get USD Composer assets INTO Blender? Normally that is the other way around. You use a DCC like Blender to make assets and bring them into Omniverse for simulation and rendering. What workflow are you trying to achieve, going the other way?
