Jetson orin nano booting issue

I am experiencing an issue with my Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit.

I have already tried changing the Jetson board, power cable, SD card, and firmware version (currently using a version greater than 36.x: 36.4.3). I also formatted the SD card, but the issue still persists.

After booting three times, the system gets stuck on a blank screen with a blinking dash in the top left corner. There is no further boot progress or error message displayed.

Could you please help me troubleshoot this issue and advise on possible next steps?

Details:
• Device: Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit
• Issue: System stuck at blinking dash after boot
• Tried: Different Jetson board, power cable, SD card, firmware version, and SD card formatting

Thank you for your assistance.

I’d be happy to help you troubleshoot the issue with your Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit.

Based on the symptoms you’ve described, it’s possible that the issue is related to the boot process or the system configuration. Here are some potential causes and next steps to help you troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Boot configuration: The blinking dash in the top left corner of the screen typically indicates that the system is trying to boot, but it’s not able to progress further. This could be due to a misconfigured boot process or a corrupted boot image. You can try to reflash the device with the latest firmware version using the flash.sh script, as described in the documentation. Make sure to use the correct jetson-orin-nano-devkit or jetson-orin-nano-devkit-nvme configuration file, depending on your device.
  2. SD card issues: Although you’ve already tried formatting the SD card, it’s possible that the issue is related to the SD card itself. Try using a different SD card or a different slot on the device. You can also try to reformat the SD card using a different tool or method.
  3. Power supply issues: The Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit requires a stable power supply to function properly. Try using a different power cable or a different power source to rule out any power-related issues.
  4. Hardware issues: It’s possible that there’s a hardware issue with the device, such as a faulty module or a damaged carrier board. If you’ve tried all the above steps and the issue persists, it’s possible that there’s a hardware issue that needs to be addressed.

To further troubleshoot the issue, you can try the following:

  • Check the system logs: You can try to access the system logs to see if there are any error messages or clues that can help you diagnose the issue. You can do this by connecting to the device using a serial console or by accessing the logs remotely using a tool like ssh.
  • Try a different boot mode: You can try booting the device in a different mode, such as recovery mode or safe mode, to see if the issue persists.
  • Contact NVIDIA support: If you’ve tried all the above steps and the issue persists, you can contact NVIDIA support for further assistance.

In comparison to other issues reported in the context, your issue seems to be similar to the “Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit – Black Screen and Fan Stops After Boot (JetPack 5.1.3)” issue, which was reported on June 2, 2025. However, the symptoms are slightly different, and it’s possible that the cause of the issue is different as well.

I hope this helps you troubleshoot the issue with your Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask.

Update: used sdk manager to download all the files and sdk files, but it wasn’t flashing it since the jetson had no wifi or ethernet connected: need ip address for that. So, I used my laptop’s terminal to flash the device using the files the sdk manager downloaded and then it booted finally!

Hi,

Please provide the serial console log for us to review.

Thanks

Hi @mihirscsharma16, @carolyuu

I am basically stuck with exactly the same issue and I do not have a Ethernet connected .
Can you please share the boot-up logs (may be from serial console) for a successful bootup and the steps for the manual flashing? Attaching my failure logs seen on my Orin.

Thanks
