Jetson Xavier NX Installation Failed on Step 3: Start the flashing process

Hello,

I tried to flash Jetson Xavier NX Developer Kit with JetPack 5.1 Flashing failed on the "Step 3: Flash Jetson Linux” step.

The process finished “Step 2: Boot the device with flash initrd image ” but fails on “Step 3: Start the flashing process ”.

The host machine is Ubuntu 18.04 on virtualbox

Have you tried using the flashing script directly by running it manually yourself:

sudo ./flash.sh jetson-xavier-nx-devkit mmcblk0p1

Also I am able to recall that issues tend to appear when attempting to flash a Jetson board while working with a virtual machine. It may be worth to browse this forum for related threads to those issues. For example:

Yes, exactly. You don’t need to open the sdkmanager. You should find this script at: <patch-to-JetPack-install-dir>/Linux_for_Tegra/

Are you using Xaver NX devkit with eMMC or SD module?

$sudo ./nvsdkmanager_flash.sh --storage nvme0n1p1

Do you connect an NVMe drive and want to flash into it?

For the timeout issue at step3, we would need to check serial console log.
Please refer to the following instruction to capture serial console log.

i’m using Xavier NX with NVMe, i think it’s devkit with SD module(?)

yes, i choose NVMe for storage device to flash.

ok, i need TTL-USB converter first, so i will give an update later

the solution for me is i install the jetson from SDK manager directly from Linux machine instead of VM. so don’t use VM, it’s not recommended, but certain cases it work.
