I have a new MSI RAIDER GE66 gaming laptop which has a RTX3070ti and installed Ubuntu 21.10 on in. After the fresh install the nouveau driver was active and did not recognize my external monitor. After i installed the nvidia-driver-510 from “Additional Drivers” and rebooted, the laptop screen is showing the MSI boot icon (not working) and my external monitor is working!
Things i tried to get the laptop screen working:
- installed the latest BIOS firmware
- installed drivers (510, 470, 460) from add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
- installed driver from nvidia website (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-510.60.02.run)
- delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- prime-select nvidia
- remove stray blacklist files (sudo rm /lib/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf)
- options nvidia-drm modeset=1 and 0
- blacklist nouveau (/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia-nouveau.conf)
