Movie Capture randomly produces flickering animations

Hello,
this is issue is happening to me pretty much since the beginning of my journey with Omniverse.

Every so often animation that comes out of Movie Capture is has flickering issues, they are not usual highlights/edges flickering that sometimes happen with V-Ray for instance.

It looks like a random splotches of light. I still didn’t figured out what can cause it, I keep changing settings and trying different stuff like:

  • removing the light emissive backplates from the scene
  • changing the Lighting Mode between Image-Base Lighting / Approximated Image-Base Lighting
  • changing the Settle Latency in Movie Capture between -1 and 0

The weirdest thing is that launching the animation with the exact same settings sometimes goes out well and at times produce the flickering. As happened again last night.

Here are the results.

Yes I see what you mean. I am assuming this is with REALTIME mode correct ? This mode does sometime produce inconsistences between takes, whereas path tracing is more consistent.

Have you tried to do a short test with pathtracing ?
If you hide the glass, I assume the problem goes away.
Are you using your machine during the rendering process or are you leaving it to render ?
Are you rendering across multiple machines or just one ?
Is this with Ray Reconstruction on or off ?

It would be good to idenifty the exact issue. I am assuming its one particular light and light setting. If you turn off all GI and just render with direct lighting, does it happen ? I bet not. I bet its an issue with GI.

If you want to privately send me the scene I am try to triage it.

Hello Richard.

It is PT mode (makes me think that the quality is not that good if you mistaken it for the Real Time haha).

The light splotches accurs on different surfaces, not only glass.
I am leaving machine alone to render.
Using just one machine.
Ray Reconstruction is Off as it is Path Tracing mode.

My guess is that it is coming from HDRI light (there is HDRI + Sun),
At first I thought is that the HDRI file sometimes does not load in time for every frame so I set the -1 latency (which doubles the render times…) but it still produced light splotches.

What would be the best way to send you the scene containing all the textures and used .usd files?

Thank you

So then have you tried to keep Ray Reconstruction ON, which is much preferred these days ?

To send me the scene just use the Collect feature under the File menu. File > Collect and send the whole folder zipped up.

I don’t use Ray Reconstruction because this feature is missing in PT mode.

Yes of course. I will look into the scene and see for myself. I do honestly feel you could get this kind of high quality in the RTX Realtime mode though. It’s only limitation is refractions. If you don’t have complex glass, which you do not, you can easily do this in Realtime.
