NO sound using DisplayPort audio with 375.82, 384.59 and 384.69

Can anyone please refer to a guide as to how to make the switch from DP 1.2 to 1.1? Thanks

Usually this is a setting on your monitor. Take it out of 1.2 mode by the monitor’s configuration menu (so you don’t need to do anything on your computer).
However, if you have a 4K monitor, you will probably be forced to 30 Hz refresh by doing this, which is a big step backwards. That’s why this audio problem is so annoying: DP 1.2 is needed for 4K.

I think I’m also affected by this with driver 430.14 and my HDMI-DP Adapter. It works fine on Windows 10.

Are there any news on this? I also seem to be affected with driver 430.14 and a Quadro K620. Which makes it even more problematic because I can not switch to HDMI ( because the card has only DVI and DP ) and the screen is a 4K ultrawide screen so DVI can not handle it…

It seems fixed for me with driver 430.26.

Still doesn’t work for me in 430.26 but maybe this kernel change is the solution:
‘Linux Kernel Set To Expose Hidden NVIDIA HDA Controllers, Helping Laptop Users’

I don’t think is of any help for us in that matter.
But i can agree that with 430.26 this is not fixed! 390.116 still being the latest version that works for me.

430.26 Fixed it partially for me, but it does not survive hibernation. I always need to reboot to get it to work again. Anyone has a workaround for that? Restarting the sound server does not fix it, maybe restarting the display server would but then I’d loose all open applications anyway and can reboot as well.

It seems restarting gnome-shell ( AltF2 → type r → Return ) does the trick.

Will this mean that we have support for DP MST next week ?

Does indeed look so:

Just to set your expectations: audio over DP-MST is going to require a graphics driver change in addition to the kernel change mentioned in the Phoronix article. We’re working on getting that to you as soon as we can.

I’m using 440.64, sound over DP still doesn’t work at all.

From changelog, version 440.59:
* Added support for audio over DisplayPort Multi-Stream. This support
requires Linux kernel version 5.5 or newer.
Do you have the required kernel version running?

I tried it with 5.5 and it still doesn’t work.

I’m having the same issue after hibernation. It seems to be related to specific Kernel versions (Ubuntu kernel upgrade | C2Bio).

Solutions that worked for me:

1 - Unplugging and plugging the Display Port cable to the graphics card.

or

2 - Executing “pulseaudio -k” and after waiting some seconds, executing “pulseaudio --start” (hints obtained from suspend - No sound on wake, Dummy Output always takes over. 'pulseaudio -k' the fix - Ask Ubuntu)

I hope this helps you.

I have the same problem on 390.25 and 440.44 nvidia drivers.
Well, not exactly the same: the sound starts playing with a 5 s approximately delay.

I suspect the nvidia hdmi codec.
