Hi NVIDIA Team,

I am trying to benchmark video encoding capabilities onboard the Drive AGX Orin. Using the sample app nvm_iep_sci, I am trying to encode a 4K video with pixel format IYUV to H265 using the default config file for H265 at UHP quality. When I run sudo tegrastats, I am seeing it report NVENC off during the encoding process. I instead notice one of the CPU core is going up to 100% when the encoding is in process. Is there any advice to get the encoding to be done on the encoding hardware or am I interpreting something wrongly here?

Thanks!

Dear @samuel.ongzx,
There is an issue in tegrastats tool. It always shows NVENC off. The encoding is performed using NVENC engine only.

Thanks for the clarification @SivaRamaKrishnaNV. Is there another way we could check the status of NVENC or the frequency it is running at? Is this issue also prevalent in other hardware status that could be read from tegrastats such as NVDEC, NVJPEG and VIC?

Yes. You can check the frequencies of these at /sys/kernel/debug/clk/<nvenc/nvjpeg/vic>
