nvidia driver 304.108 Segmentation fault with Kernel 3.11 x86_64 & GeForce 6200

Hi… I’m getting crazy since a few days with this one, same error with debian testing (kernel 3.10) and ubuntu 13.10 (kernel 3.11).
Same with the ubuntu nvidia driver package or by downloading the driver from nvidia (to compile I had to patch it as discussed in another thread).

Sandipt thanks for taking the time to go throu the logs, I tried what you suggest but it does not help.

I tried also to run with nvidia driver 173.14 (you can see this from the /var/log/Xorg.1.log in the bug report) since it should support my GeForce 6200: X does not start but instead of the segmentation fault I now get several such lines in the log:

Hope this can help to debug further.

One thing more, I’m upgrading from a debian stable where I was recently experiencing some random crashes where the screen freeze… I’m wondering if the video card is reaching his end… can I verify this somehow?

An update - I found a used GeForce GT 220 so I tried to change my video card: nouveau driver was freezing with unclear memory errors flashing on the screen. Nvidia official driver was failing with “(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize DMA.”.

After trying anything I could (I learned a lot about kernel parameters…) I found out that by removing/swapping RAM modules I was getting erroneous behaviors: freeze at boot (before grub!), freeze at bios level (i.e. no bios screen at all), freeze during boot. Now I ended up by leaving two RAM slots free and the other two with 1 GB each. All seems to work fine, NVIDIA offical drivers included.

So… all this to say this seemed to be an HW problem with RAM not with the nvidia card.
