i have asked a few days ago how to fix a blackscreen problem, currently happens on one of the screens, not always the same and sometimes it is fixed by removing and adding cables but other times it just does not work.
I had sent details on the last reply on this post Black screen, unstable or not second monitor RTX2070, Ubuntu - #20 by bizmate
But I am attaching a new nvdia log
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (719.7 KB)
I see the log is complaining about some modules being loaded already such as
nvidia-drm' appears to already be loaded in your kernel
and
ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid
but I have no clue if these might cause the problem or not and what to do next.
The log shows the screens are indeed detected on DP1 and 4 apparently but again why is it causing a black screen?
I have switched to latest supported kernel
Linux version 6.8.0-57-generic (buildd@lcy02-amd64-104) (x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc-12 (Ubuntu 12.3.0-1ubuntu1~22.04) 12.3.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.38) #59~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed Mar 19 17:07:41 UTC 2
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-6.8.0-57-generic root=UUID=315979a7-13a8-49cf-bd7a-616f29ad8c79 ro
and rerun the log file
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (714.0 KB)
Just for the benefit of anyone reaching this forum page experiencing similar problems. Dual screens are back working now after I did:
- updated to current latest kernel
6.8.0-57-generic
- removed opotions
acpi=force nomodeset
previously added to fix a similar problem in previous version of the kernel nvidia driver
- updated nvidia driver to
550.120
- finally added
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nvidia-drm.modeset=1 nvidia-drm.fbdev=1"
in bootloaded as per article on stackoverflow
FALSE ALARM - problem came back on the next reboot. No errors in nvidia log or dmesg . Second display detected and ubuntu seems to think it is working but it is not. Something in the GPU is not sending the signal, completely lost for work for the lack of functionality and nobody will actually reply to this thread
