Orin Nano DK - Messed up update to JetPack 6.0 - Easy way to reset/fix?

Hallo,
I purchased one of the first Jetson Orin Nano DevKit in 2023, but I am still a beginner concerning embedded/Jetson stuff.

Today I tried to update, following the instruction in https://www.jetson-ai-lab.com/initial_setup_jon.html:

According to the description, first:

  1. Check Manufactured after May 2024? i.e. Jetson UEFI Firmware newer than version 36.0 => NO!
    Therefore, second:
  2. Flash JetPack 5.1.3 image on microSD card => DONE!
  3. Reboot => DONE!

PROBLEM:
After rebooting my Monitor connected with the Orin Nano shows black screen with overlay: “Wrong Spec”, connected 2nd monitor with same result. (both 4k/60hz displays - using DP-to-toDP cables)
I am able to press ESC while booting and enter the Setup in low res (VGA-like style), but after leaving setup - the system usually starts gui (which worked before this update perfectly)- I get this error.

I tried to use other SD Images (5.1.2) and even 6.0.
With Image of JetPack 5.1.1/5.1.2 the Orin Nano Reboots in a Loop
With Image JetPack 5.1.3 I get this Monitor Issue from above.
With Image JetPack 6.0 the boot freezes with Error.

Guess bests Solution would be
a.) Getting 5.1.3 to run (get rid of black screen, spec error) and continue the procedure from above … and update acc. instruction:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-l4t-jetson-orin-nano-qspi-updater

b.) Complete Reset to default settings? How to?

Thanks in advance.

I am having flashing problem.
not sure where I need to do this update. Linux is not booting, puts me in Shell>

I am having the same issue. I purchased the Orin Nano developer kit, which was running 3.x, was able to flash with 5.13 - although I’m not sure how successful this was. I got it to do the update bar on the nvidia bootup splash screen, but then when the update completed it would just endlessly reboot (nothing showing on monitor after initial splash screen - which said it was running 5.0 firmware). I tried flashing the SD with 6.0 which freezes after “EFI stub: Exiting boot services”. Very frustrating.

Please find a Ubuntu host PC and use SDK Manager to re-flash everything.

Thanks Dave,
After I “found” an Ubuntu host PC, …

  1. does it need a GUI or can I use the console for SDK Manager?
  2. I have no connection with the Jetson Orin Nano, so how to connect Ubuntu PC with the Nano? Do I need a special cable, If so, can you give me a Link.
  3. Do I have to buy a jumper (I read something about concerning recovery mode)?

Overall => Is there a complete Step-by-Step Description you recommended for doing this “re-flashing” available?
Thanks in advance.
BR, Tim

Please check this page:
https://docs.nvidia.com/sdk-manager/install-with-sdkm-jetson/

YES. CLI is also supported.
https://docs.nvidia.com/sdk-manager/sdkm-command-line-install/

You need a USB-C cable for flashing.

YES.

Thanks for the light-speed answer!
I’ll try and report.
Hopefully WSL will work too (make things a lot easier)

NO. WSL will not work.
Please use a real Ubuntu PC instead.

The Flashing from an Ubuntu22.04 PC to the Jetson Orin Nano (DevKit) was successful - Thank you!
I bought:

  • an USB-A to USB-C Cable to connect the Ubuntu-PC with the Jetson.
  • a jumper to connect between FC-REC pin and any GND pin (see image from Flashing the Board from Cmdline

I decided to use GUI Version of SDK Manager (not CLI) and followed the Steps in the description.

Unfortunately:

  1. Got Dependcy Errors during Installation of Cudnn (manually installed it later acc: Medium Tutorial (See Step 3))
  2. The SD-Card-Holder became defect: have to fix with a pin (nothing to do with this topic … but greetings to your QA-Department: very poor quality, same as: SD-Slot Error.
