Orin Nano Super Dev NVME Jetpack 6.2 install hangs on "Waiting for target to boot up"

Hello,

I am getting about 60% through with installation of Jetpack 6.2 on an NVME installed on my Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer kit. At that point, the terminal message shows “Waiting for target to boot up” repeatedly and then fails and tries to clean up. I am using Ubuntu 22.0.4.5 on WSL2 and have followed preliminary instructions. I have also updated the firmware and have successfully loaded up and run Jetpack 6.1 on an SD card. I have provided the logs. Could you please assist?

When looking for threads about flashing problems in the past, people have recommended to not use WSL or VMs, try to get a native linux install if possible.

IIRC when it reboots and does that “Waiting for target to boot up…” thing, it drops USB for a moment and when it comes up again it has a different USB PID since it’s no longer in recovery mode. You might need to reattach it to WSL at that point. I remember having this issue when trying with a VM before.

Hi,

We recommend to install native ubuntu and flash with it,
but there some user share them experience about flashing in VM.

Thanks

I solved this by using an Ubuntu 22.04 VM with VMWare Workstation (which is now free of charge). Upon connecting the Jetson in forced recovery mode, VMWare asked if I wanted to connect the device to the VM. I said yes and checked the box to do this without asking. The installation was smooth and error free! Now enjoying my Jetson. So VM can be a good option for those who do not have a spare PC to install Linux on.
