Hi,

It looks like the g++ cross compiler cannot be installed on your environment.
Could you try to install g+±aarch64-linux-gnu on your pc first?

Not sure if this is related to firewall or router issue.
It’s recommended to test if you can see these web pages with your host:
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial-updates/main/dep11/

Thanks.

Thanks for reply AastaLLL.

I tested the above addresses ok, but I get 404 errors as below:
Please advise!

I’ve just realised I’ve been trying to solve this problem for a whole week now! I’m NOT a Linux expert.
Will this work at all or will my confuser get even more confused?

well, can you either install a second Ubuntu OS to the Host PC or reinstall it?

Basically at a clean Ubuntu install you shouldn’t get issues.
By the way do you have a nvidia GPU device at your Host PC?

Yep …. Nvidia gallium 0.4 on NV96.
I’m going to do a clean install with 16.04.4 …. Fingers crossed!

Hi,

As Andrey1984 said, the installation should be OK on a fresh Ubuntu environment.
Please let us know the results.

Thanks.

Fresh install worked and the Jetson TX2 now seems to be flashed:

*** The target t186ref has been flashed successfully ***

I’m now getting message:

Finished flashing OS
Determining IP address of target …….

And a readme file pops up. I press reset button on Jetson as instructed, and type commands into terminal as per instructions and nothing happens.

I open network settings on host and there’s no ‘wired’ connection.

There is a wired connection in Jetson.

Bluetooth on Jetson does not seem to work - wont discover anything, whilst host works ok. (My internet access is on Bluetooth).

Any clues? Has someone already had this problem here?

Thanks.

It appears that you have successfully installed the tegra OS. However, if the network connection hasn’t been established successfully some Post installation package’s highly likely haven’t been installed and that is something you can do later with starting JetPack installer again and selecting Post-Installation processing, in my opinion.
Regarding to Bluetooth you may approach executing :

rfkill list

or use the url as the reference
The BT you can enable from: System Settings -> Bluetooth -> Turn on Bluetooth.
[source]

Thanks @Andrey1984 … I tried the following:

$ sudo apt-get install libbluetooth-dev
$ sudo rfkill unblock bluetooth
$ hcitool dev
# bluetooth adapter info should now be printed out

and got:

E: Unable to locate package libbluetooth-dev
Devices:
hci0 00:04:4B:A8:49:95

… Eventually got it to work … right click connection icon then select network.

Thanks!

I’m now at a point where I can see USB connection and I’m trying to do the next step in post installation. On host PC I’ve got:

I’m obviously connected via USB and am ‘seeing’ the Nvidia Tegra.

In the ‘Post installation’ window:
Now stuck on 'Determining the IP address of target …
Nothing happens!

The “operation not permitted” from the ifconfig commands implies you need to use “sudo” for root permissions before the command will be allowed. If you are doing this on the command line be sure to use sudo. If this is from JetPack, be sure to watch the console for requests for user "nvidia"s password (default name/pass is “nvidia”/“nvidia”).

What exactly does 'Determining the IP address of target ……" mean? I’ve just uploaded the fist chunk of data, presumably the operating system, from the host to the target with ethernet wired USB. Presumably the system needed to know the IP address to do that operation? Why does it need to do it again?

I’m following a pop up instruction readme that talks about the usb ethernet connection - surely this has just been setup and used for the first chunk of data. What exactly am I trying to do at this stage (as above)?

I’ve got the usb ethernet connection set up with ip address, 192.168.55.2 for the host and 192.168.55.1 for the target. Is this actually relevant at this stage?

Usb connection is obviously working as I can ‘see’ the nvidia@tegra-ubuntu …… Why does system need to determine the IP address of target if it is already talking to it?

Am I missing something here ??? Or am I just really stupid?

At the start, by default flash occurs first (you can uncheck flash), and then package install starts after flash completes and the Jetson is rebooted. Determining IP is where ethernet is attempting to talk to the newly rebooted Jetson to add extra packages. You can optionally limit to just flash, or you can just add packages at any time without flash…just uncheck the part you are not doing.

Automatically determining the IP address seems to only work right after a flash. There are many cases where you will need to manually add the IP address. There will be prompts for this, but you may need to watch closely and follow the console tab. Should this step be reached, then you know the flash itself is completed (or was unchecked). The automatic mechanisms depend on the wired ethernet of the Jetson.

Typically flash attempts to set up such that the Jetson could be identified on the network as “tegra-ubuntu”, and “nvidia@tegra-ubuntu” is a specific user (“nvidia”) logging in to computer “tegra-ubuntu” (e.g., “ssh nvidia@tegra-ubuntu” or “ssh nvidia@”). Any router setup issue will cause you to need to manually enter the IP instead of calling it “tegra-ubuntu”. Manual intervention.

Your router (or your PC if the PC is acting as router) will have the IP address in its logs when the Jetson boots and uses DHCP to request an address.

I’ve got these ethernet connections available, none are called USB0 or USB1 … Which one should i be using?

FYI, in R28.2 there seems to be a demo of the USB “gadget” interface where the micro-OTG port can become several virtual devices when it is up and running. USB network devices are part of that (along with mass storage…perhaps other things). These are not real devices, but could in theory be used for adding packages. I don’t know what the motivation was for adding this, but it is basically the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for those interested in setting their Jetson to appear as if it is some custom device…plus, as mentioned, perhaps a possibility of no longer needing ethernet for package installs (it’d still be ethernet, but it would be an ethernet device over USB which is really just the Jetson pretending to be ethernet). If you unplug the micro-B USB cable between host and Jetson you will see these devices go away (monitor “dmesg --follow” and then plug in or unplug that cable on a running R28.2 TX2). Your real concern is to use wired ethernet when doing package installs.

Unfortunately, I do not know which interface of your computer would be the one with wired ethernet connected to the Jetson’s wired ethernet. If you run the command “route”, and post the results, then it might be possible to tell. Unless you have more than one wired network interface (I have three), then you would be wanting the one with the “default” route. If you are on a separate wired interface, then you’d want the one within that address/mask combination.

enp0s29f7u2 and enp0s29f7u2i5 are unlikely since those do not have an address.

enp2s0 is a strong possibility because it is a wired interface with an assigned address.

The other interfaces are either WiFi or virtual and are not candidates.
